Theory: Ghosts are real in Fodlan and Dimitri is getting gaslighted super hard

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 01:23 PM PST

Okay so it's usually accepted that Dimitri sees hallucinations due to his trauma, however something interesting is that he never sees Byleth's ghost despite them being "dead" in Dimitri's mind for five years. The evidence for this is him saying:

I should have known...that one day...you would be haunting me as well.

Dimitri also never says that Dedue is haunting him specifically, besides this line if you didn't get him back in the bridge chapter:

NO! Don't die... Please, don't die! Father, Stepmother, Glenn, Dedue... They all died and left me behind. Rodrigue... Are you to join the ghosts who shadow my every move?

If it was only Dimitri's trauma then you'd expect that he'd also see the hallucinations of the two closest people to him who he believes 100% is already dead.

However Dimitri's perspective is not the only evidence proving this. Infamously in Silver Snow, Byleth sees Dimitri's ghost after taking the Bridge. While the scene itself is very bizarre the more interesting thing about it is that Byleth somehow sees Dimitri's post skip design despite never seeing him before in Silver Snow. Byleth never talks with Dimitri post skip and it's highly doubtful Dimitri would have any paintings or such of himself post skip. This means that its more than likely actually Dimitri himself and not just something in Byleth's head.

Ashe, Lysithea, and Alois are also subject to the fear of ghosts and coincidentally they all have people in their lives who died who would be able to haunt them, with Ashe's parents, Lysithea's siblings, and Alois' pun victims. (Fear of ghosts is commonly caused by the death of close family members or traumas irl but uhhhhhh this is obvious clear evidence)

So, to conclude, Dimitri is actually completely right in the head when he sees the ghosts of the dead, and everyone in Fodlan is just gaslighting him when they say he's just seeing things.

(There is obviously a better connection with Dimitri's crest of Blaiddyd especially with the irl story's association with the dead but that's not funnnnnnnnnnnn)

"What does it take for them to be good?" and "What makes them broken?" - Index and Wrap up

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 03:28 AM PST

Hello and welcome back to the wrap-up of two series: What does it take for them to be good? and What makes them broken?, the award winning series that examines the viability of classes through the entire FE series under the standards of fast or efficent play. In each episode we covered one of FE's iconic classes to see how truly useful they were in every game in the series, analyzing what made them good or bad and making suggestion for how we would improve or nerf certain classes.

In the following portion of this episode is a list of each of the episodes in sequential order and a short summary of each of the classes.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.) Myrmidon - Swordmaster - Tureblade - These classes heavily emphasize exceptionally high skill and speed stats in exchange for having lesser strength and being less sturdy. Owing to both their high skill and typically possessing substantial bonuses to their critical rate, while exclusively using swords.

2.) Archer - Sniper - Marksman - These classes are primarily characterized by their exceptional skill and accuracy, augmented by the class's recurring tendency to receive skills enhancing it even further in certain games. Their strength and speed are also high, and they tend to possess competent defenses. However, they are crippled by their unsuitability for the enemy phase: as they are almost perpetually locked to 2 or 3 range.

3.) Mercenary - Hero - Vanguard - These classes are usually characterised by being all arounder while specialising in skill, speed and strength for lower resistance and not having any skill that boost their offenses or defenses.

4.) Fighter - Warrior - Reaver - These classes are defined by their colossal strength stat and their high HP, and their constitution is also very high. Although their speed is decent, they are primarily hindered by their relatively poor skill, additionally, their mediocre defenses and the low resistance prevents them from making good use of their HP.

5.) Thief - Rogue - Whisper - Supportive classes whose abilities lie primarily in the domain of stealing and obtaining items or gold from the enemy. These classes usually possess exceptional speed and good skill, but can seldom put these to use in combat as they typically have poor to mediocre strength and are rendered extremely frail by their low defensive stats.

6.) Pirate - Berserker. Also, Brigands and Onies - A bunch of unorthodox classes that primarely use axes, but have unique qualities that seperate them from the Fighter classline.

7.) Manaketes, Laguz, Taguel, Wolfskin and Kitsune - These classes don't use weapons and instead transform into different forms in order to fight, but are heald back by not having access to all the tools most classes have.

8.) Cavalier - Paladin - Gold Knight - These classes are usually described as balanced, but have exceptionally high movement, can use multiple weapons and have access to canto, while facing harsher terrain penalties than most classes.

9.) Pegasus Knight - Falcon Knight - Seraph Knight - These classes posses exceptional movement, speed, have the ability to fly over terrain and have access to canto, while being rather frail, lacking significant strength and having a weakness to bows and wind magic.

10.) Mage - Sage - Archsage & Dark Mage - Druid - Infantry magic using classes that wield offensive magic for combat, which allows them to attack both from a distance and close range and hit on enemy resistance instead of defense, while having low defense, HP and constitution.

11.) Monks & infantry staffbots - Infantry magic users that use supportive magic to help their allies instead of fighting. They usually boast high magic and the ability to use staves, but have poor defense and HP which makes them unfit for combat.

12.) Mounted magic users - These classes have access to high movement and canto, along with the ability to use staves or tomes, but don't have the same strengths as their infantry counterparts.

13.) Dancers - Supportive classes that are bad at fighting due to their poor bulk and strength, but have the ability to refresh an ally unit and give them another action in the same turn.

14.) Wyvern rider - Wyvern lord - These classes have exceptional mobility, canto ant the ability to fly over terrain. They also posses exceptional strength and defense, while still having decent skill and speed, with their only weaknesses being poor resistance and weaknesses to things such a bows and thunder or wind magic.

15.) Armor knights - Generals - Marshalls - These classes are defined by their status as bulky armor units as they have exceptional defense HP, above average strength, but have very low resistance and low movement and high constitution which prevents them from going very far.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I don't sound like a broken record I'll keep my thanks to a minimum. Back when I did my first episode I always thought about making this a series, but I never imagined that it would get so much attention and would even win the award for the best mechanical discussion alongside Zoran's guide to Conquest. What inspired me was a lot of fighting game vides where players analised why certain characters were or weren't very good in competitive play and then when I watched Mekkah's tier lists I thought about making an analysis of my favourite class: the swordmatser class, since I knew it pretty well and I thought it would invite some discussion. However, I never expected to get so much attention and that people would continue supporting this series. It's far from perfect and a lot of much better FE players could've done this whole idea better, as evident by how often I got corrected in the comment section, but I'm happy with it and glad it managed to generate some discussion.

I have to tank: FED, Mekkah, DonDon151, Palla Emblem, Topazd, Valkama, KrashBoomBang and of course everyone who read this series. Thanks you for the inspiration and making long analysis of certain characters as well for games I didn't know as well or introducing me to strats I wouldn't have know about otherwise.

It seems that the time between the start and end of this series ended in a flash. I'm still here on reddit and am still gonna post, though I'm not sure if I'm gonna be doing another series anytime soon. Partly because it's a bit draining and mostly because I don't have many ideas, maybe do an analysis of some maps or do a Bonding Blade stile series on The Sacred Stones supports, but for now I'm gonna keep it simple. Once again, thank you for all the support and until my next post, Adios.

    A Brief Analysis on Nils

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 06:52 PM PST

Nils is one of the most interesting characters in fire emblem, and definitely FE7. His arc is defined by fear, isolation, and failure. FE7 starts with him and Ninian as travelling dancers, being a little scared of humans due to their interactions with Nergal. This fear of humans is only magnified in Nils when his sister is kidnapped by pirates. Eventually, however, Nils begins to open up to the rest of the group, and as his quote in heroes says, he's less scared of humans. Just when it seems like he'll be ok, he witnesses Ninian in dragon form being cut down by Eliwood. Nils screams in agony before his sister's corpse (the first time I've ever cried playing a video game). After seeing how mercilessly Eliwood reacts to the dragon form, all of Nils' growth is for naught, and his fear returns. It's telling that not only does Nils have no supports, but he will always return to the dragon world at the end of the game. No matter what, irreparable damage has been done and Nils will lose faith in humanity.

    Tiers Being Used:

Fantastic Performance: S Almost always very useful, with very few to no flaws. They may also provide a valuable niche, or just perform what they do the best.

    Includes Villager Mercenary

Great Performance: A Very useful alotta the time, with a couple minor detriments that don't really hold them back. They may fill a good niche or perform what they do splendidly.

Includes Mage Tobin, Mage Faye, Villager Archer

Good Performance: B Pretty useful, with some minor detriments that hold them back somewhat. They may fill a niche, but someone might do it better, and they can perform well if given the opportunity.

    Includes Alm

AOK Performance: C Can be useful, with detriments that hold them back. They might fill a niche, even if its not useful, and they can perform decently if given the investment.

Includes Lukas, Mage Gray, Mage Kliff

Iffy Performance: D Not all that useful, with possible major detriments holding them back. They do not fill any required niches and take more investing than most to perform adequately or not all that solidly.

    Includes Villager Cavalier, Villager Soldier

At this point, units are no longer recommended by the list.

Lame Performance: E Straight up bad, no way around it. There are very few places where they are actually useful, and they are actively difficult units to use effectively.

    Includes Mage Atlas

Next Round will be Clair and Clive
