    Gilbert. Dude. What's your damage? Your king got killed and your response is to abandon your title and run off to the monastery? And leave sweet Annette without a father? Sound fucking logic there. You are the ultimate dead beat dad. Annette has to ask Dimitri what you were like in their supports, meanwhile you won't even so much as look her way before the timeskip. The first time after seeing her in years you do fuck all. You won't even spend time with her and you LIVE IN THE SAME FUCKING BUILDING. You think the Seiros you believe in would want you to live like this? Stop being such a punk ass bitch and go spend time with your family.

    Edit: To clarify, I never said I thought Gilbert was a bad character. I don't like him because he does bad things.

    The Dynamic of each House in Garreg Mach Monastery reflects their nations as a whole

    I'm not sure if other people are aware of this but I've just realized how clear and deliberate it is by the writers with how they structured each house and the relations of each student is within them, to reflect the world as a whole. I think it is very clever storytelling and world building to see how much of what we know about the Nations of Fodland to be reinforced just from our little class of 8 students each.

    The Empire - Those who are at this school are generally those those directly expected to be the leaders. Sure, Blue Lions have that too but more people's identity as a character ties into their role in life more, where Ferdinand-pride in his house/Bernadetta-being groomed as a wife/Petra- being a political hostage essentially and ect. most of this house is clearly shaped by how they are born and what they're expected to become. Hubert in particular was Edelgard's vassal since age 6, it wasn't his choice. Not to say they aren't close but they were brought together because they were forced to.

    The Kingdom - Deeply Knightly country and their deep loyalties and friendships to each other reflected in their friendships and the amount some feel like they owe to others. Dimitri/Ingrid/Sylvain/Felix are all described as childhood friend from an early age along with Annette/Mercedes. Not to mention Ashe and his unending Loyalty to Lonato and his family who he feels he should be loyal to even after death. This is all without mentioning Dedue who pledges himself to an unhealthy degree to Dimitri because of what he feels he owes Dimitri.

    The Alliance - Mostly strangers to each other when full of commoners, and the singular noble who care about his position deeply is the outcast of this group relatively to everyone else. Although Lorenz has other reasons Only Ralphel and Ignatz know each other, just from their family of merchants. There are no connections because of Royalty like Hubert being assigned for example, and that's why I think the emerging loyalty between Hilda and Claude very significant. It shows the growing unification of the alliance and hinting that Fodland and Alymrya can come together.

    Honestly, I'm only just noticing this now, but the connections between the Lord and their retainer each act as a strong reflection of their country in general not to mention each retainer is among my favorite characters
