I know they’re probably mutually exclusive because their paralogues are the same, but damn if I don’t want there to be more to it.

Byleth feels like a Power Fantasy character

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 01:09 PM PST

For those who aren't aware, power fantasy is a term for media where the hero is meant to be a stand-in for the reader/player/viewer and is the ultimate-powered badass protagonist who is dominant over everyone.

These are the reasons I feel like Byleth feels like a power fantasy character:

-Byleth is meant to be a self-insert (hence their lack of personality), which fulfills one of the quotas

-Byleth is one of, if not the best, unit in the game being the most flexible while also having one of the best Relic weapons in the game

-Said Relic weapon is said to be powerful enough to level mountains and be the most powerful Relic, which only Byleth can use efficiently

-Their backstory mentions that they are a feared mercenary, implying that they already have a great deal of skill

-They have a literal progenitor god living in their head and said goddess's crest stone as their magic pacemaker

-They become a professor at Garreg Mach which is a position of authority, despite not doing much to warrant getting it

-Every student in Byleth's house (along with some of the faculty) practically worship Byleth, constantly praising them even when they don't do all that much that is extremely noteworthy

-When they fuse with Sothis, they acquire god-like power, immortality and a more powerful sword which allows one to see Byleth as being above human and reinforcing the super-powered badass angle

-Come the War Phase, it remains largely a stalemate until Byleth returns with whichever side Byleth is part of proceeding to steamroll all of Fodlan

-The final bosses are all either some sort of deity or corrupt evil, which Byleth kills directly in 3/4 post-battle scenes

-In 3 out of the 4 endings, Byleth ends up in a highly important position of power despite not really having the requirements for it (that being either the Archbisop or the Ruler of Fodlan)

-Everyone wants a piece of that Byleth ass, and I do mean EVERYONE

Am I looking way too deep into this? Yes I am, but I feel like it was worth address even if it may not be true.
