Everyone Plays Fire Emblem - Week of January 8st, 2021

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 08:16 PM PST

Welcome to the next installment of EPFE! This is a casual space for discussing any ongoing Fire Emblem (or related games) playthroughs. Screenshots, impressions, frustrations... gameplay stuff that would otherwise be removed as a standalone post under Rule 8 can be shared here.

While you can of course ask for advice here, specific questions might get better responses in the General Question Thread here.

As always, remember to tag your spoilers, and have fun!

Last week's thread can be found here.

What are some of the clutchest level-ups you’ve gotten in Fire Emblem?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 11:14 AM PST

I made a similar post in the past about the funniest/weirdest level-ups in Fire Emblem, but now I want to ask about the clutchest level-ups that either made a map way easier or barely saved your character's life.

I recently decided to try a 2nd playthrough of Radiant Dawn, except I would try out Hard Mode. The removal of the weapon triangle, the huge reduction of Bonus EXP, and the inability to see enemy ranges made the early chapters pretty difficult. The relative lack of EXP hurt Aran the most since he needed the levels to boost his Str and Def (with BEXP patching up his Spd), and the lack of a weapon triangle hurt Edward the most since he wouldn't get a needed avoid boost against axe enemies.

Anyways, I just played Chapter 1-9, which in my 1st playthrough was a tedious map due to Micaiah getting one-rounded by every ranged enemy. Not being allowed to Rescue her with that spoilery character (whom I won't name for anyone who hasn't played RD) made it worse. Going into my Hard Mode attempt at this map, my Micaiah got Spd-blessed and Def blessed to an extent. She had 12 Spd, 7 Def, and 20 HP at Level 13. Even so, I wasn't sure that was enough to survive on Hard Mode, so I was prepared for another installment of Reset Emblem.

At the beginning of the map, I casually decided to give her some chip damage EXP from the axe guy on the left since I thought she wouldn't get an opportunity later. Because she had Paragon, she gained enough EXP to level up, and she got a boost in Spd. I didn't think 13 Spd was a big deal, but then when the hand axe and javelin guys came, I noticed they all had 16 AS, meaning that seemingly pointless level-up at the beginning gave me JUST enough speed to avoid getting doubled.

Because of that, I had just enough HP and defense to survive a single hit, meaning in case one of the ranged enemies ambushed me, I would survive that encounter and get chip damage when she countered. Now, I could occasionally get kills with her on player phase, thus allowing her to gain lots of EXP with Paragon.

Later in the map, one enemy showed up out of nowhere, and I luckily survived with 1 HP because I stood on a thicket (which offers 1 Def). Because Micaiah would deal chip damage every time she got attacked, I quickly killed that guy on player phase, and she got another clutch level-up to gain a boost in HP. Now with 21 Max HP, I could survive any hit even without a thicket (as the strongest enemies had 27 Atk while she had 7 Def). Eventually, Micaiah gained a total of 3 levels during the map, and she ended up with 22 HP and 14 Spd when it was all said and done.

I'm sure you all had clutch level-ups that saved you (like a Def boost that allowed you to survive with 1 HP or a Spd boost that allowed you to double all the enemies). What are some of your stories from this series?

I need help choosing a house

So I got this get today, and I'm really thinking about what house to join. I'm tempted to join the houses based on the waifus, but I also wanted the path that's going to give the best experience possible. I would prefer playing the least engaging story last. I hope you guys can give me your honest input.

How do I start playing efficiently?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 02:41 PM PST

(I posted this a while back but I think it got deleted when Automod went crazy.)

I think LTCs are cool and I want to learn how to play LTC myself, but I don't know how.

Do people generally make their own routes? Copy and improve upon others? Is there a community of people who share strats like speedrunning?
