So I wanted to make a list that answers the age old question, "What Fire Emblem game should I start on" so I tried to put the games into categories that tells you which games are good for beginners, and which of them aren't. What changes would you guys make?

Let's create original FE characters together!

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 04:14 PM PDT

Person A comes up with name, title and gender.

Person B, they add their class, whether they are promoted or not, and a basic personality.

Person C adds their growths and backstory.

Finally, Person D gives their skills, what their supports focus on, and any interesting extra notes (like a special event they have, or people they can recruit, etc.).

Please, do not rip off existing Fire Emblem characters, or characters from already existing franchises.

    No memey, full-joke characters.

FE7 Redux Tier List Round 14: Legault and Isadora

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 11:33 AM PDT

Welcome to Round 14: Legault and Isadora

Each round will last about 24 hours in between each other. Rate the units in each tier, and give clear explanations as to why. Feel free to comment on each other and discuss why you agree or disagree. Be polite, and remember, this is all in good fun. After the 24 hours, I will review all the answers and understand what the consensus reached has been, posting the result in the next round. If there is no clear majority, a tally will be made. If a tie ensues, well the round will be extended until a tiebreaker comment appears. At the very end, a hub finalized tier list will be created, with links to each and every one of these rounds, providing full analyses for FE7 units as well as a good solid tier list for the community.

Last Round resulted in Fiora in A tier and Dart in D tier.

    Tiers Being Used:

    Fantastic Performance: S

Insanely useful from the get go, always a dominant force from the moment they arrive and require little investment if any. Contributes in a significant enough manner that they always sticks out and have a substantial role.

Includes: Lyn Mode Florina, Nils, Ninian, Marcus

    Great Performance: A

Extremely useful and always a good addition to a team. Doesn't require too much investment and if they do then it's enough to make them stand out compared to most units. Biggest things holding them back are that they either don't stand out as much as the S tiers or even with investment they aren't as dominant in their role as the S tiers.

Includes: Lyn Mode Sain, Lyn Mode Kent, Lowen, Fiora

    Good Performance: B

Is pretty useful and has some sections of the game where they stand out and help. Overall solid, isn't the most significant unit, but definitely contributes in a helpful way. Aren't the highest priority when it comes to deployment, but will definitely be one of your main choices for deployment to fill out your team at multiple points in the game. Biggest things holding them back are good but not amazing stats that may cause them to be dropped later on for other units, not the best class access, not the best weapon access and maybe not the best availability. Good, but has some significant flaws that hold them back from being great.

Includes: Florina, Lyn Mode Lucius, Hector, Matthew, Oswin, Priscilla, Raven, Canas

    AOK Performance: C

Perfectly average, they can make contributions at base sometimes, but investing in them doesn't tend to improve them very much . They may not be deployed for the whole game, but it doesn't hurt to deploy them most of the time either. At the end of the day they are just serviceable, neither a detriment nor a priority when it comes to being used and are essentially filler.

Includes: Sain, Kent, Serra, Erk, Rath, Lucius

    Iffy Performance: D

Can perform a niche role and do something, but generally aren't that useful. Don't really do much and if they do something unique then it's usually done much better by a bunch of other units. Severely outclassed by most other units and while they can do something, it's usually pretty bleh in execution.

Includes: Lyn Mode Lyn, Lyn Mode Dorcas, Eliwood, Guy, Dart

    Lame Performance: E

Straight up bad, no way around it. There are very few places where they are actually useful, and they are actively difficult units to use effectively. Can probably do something at base such as heal other units, rescue canto others or chip stuff with effective weapons but it's such a bare minimum contribution that calling them good would be a stretch. They can do something, that's the most you can say for them. Other then that they're bad.

    Includes: Lyn, Dorcas, Wallace, Bartre

    Meme Performance: F Rank

These units are just really bad, complete bottom of the barrel. So bad that even with an insane amount of investment they either end up still bad or at best incredibly mediocre and this is accounting for immense babying and all stat boosters going to them. E ranks can at least do something that counts as contribution. These units can't even have that as a claim to fame, they're so bad that they just do little if anything in a non casual/non meme context.

    Includes: Wil, Rebecca

Next Round will be Heath and Hawkeye.

For those that are interested in making a FE Rom Hack please add a functioning Jeigan unit

Seriously I've played through Four Kings and playing through Lonely Mirror and not having a Jeigan makes things harder for you.

Zachary from Four Kings would've been fine if his strength wasn't capped to 10 until his promotion. Just why...

There is no Jeigan in Lonely Mirror which is why I feel it's tougher.

Seriously people not adding a jeigan does make a good harder. ..but it's like trying to hammer a nail without a hammer. You can get it done but u would've been much easier

The search for the worst! The Binding Blade

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 03:28 AM PDT

Hello and welcome to a new series. This time I'm trying to find out what are the worst units of each Fire Emblem game and then conclude which is the worst unit in . I'd usually say that this assumes things like fast or efficent play, but honestly, even without all of that most of these units would be considered garbage anyway. So you just sit back, relax and enjoy me bullying fictional characters in: The search for the worst!

To start off, we'll be going through my favourite FE game, FE6: The Binding Blade. Now, FE6 has a lot of garbage units that I could put here, but there are two that stand out as the worst ones: Gwendolyn and Sophia. Why are these two so bad? Well, let's find out:

    Gwendolyn

Gwendolyn (who will be referred to as "Wendy" for short) is an armor knight that joins in chapter 8 on turn 6. As she was apparently knighted the day before the events of chapter 8, she comes as a level 1 unpromoted unit with low bases. And I mean really low, 19 HP, 3 strength, 3 skill and 4 speed are embarassing in this stage in the game. Another notable problem is her low base level of 1, which means that she will need a lot of training to reach level 10 in order to promote. Another problem Wendy has is her class. She is an armor knight, which is an awful class in FE6 due to having the lowest movement out of any class in the game, along with facing harsh terrain penalties from nearely everything and having low speed, while at the same time FE6 maps favoring high movement due to their size. If that wasn't bad enough, Wendy also faces competition from everybody as she uses the same promotion item that is used by cavaliers, which is really bad as cavaliers such as Alen, Lance, Noah and even Trec make much better use of said promotion item, due to getting 8 movement. Finally, Wendy also really wants to promote ASAP as she is locked to lances. Lances aren't a bad weapon type in FE6 at all, but the problem in using them is the fact that soon after Wandy joins, the army heads out to The Western Isles, which is primarely dominated by axe users, against which Wendy will face a weapon triangle disadvantage and will likely get one rounded by them as well as they're likely to have more than 7 AS. You could at least try to train up Wendy by boxing in a bow user, but even then Wendy needs to deal with hit rate issues due to the combination of poor weapon accuracy in FE6 and her low skill, which means she will likely waste a lot of her turns missing. While her poor resistance isn't very weird when taking into account how most units in FE6 have poor resistance, it's still a notable problem when dealing with enemy magic users, siege tomes and enemy status staves.

Is there anything good about Wendy? I'm glad you asked, because there suprisingly enough is. She has great availability, good growths for FE6 standards (but not like amazing growths or anything), can use lances, has 10 constitution which makes her easy enough to carry around and has access to the juicy general promotion bonuses. Promotions in FE6 are usually good, but +4 HP, strength and speed is really good. With a lot of effort, Wendy can theoretically become a good lategame unit.

    Sophia

Sophia is shaman that joins in chapter 14 and is necessary to be kept alive through her joining chapter in order to unlock the gaiden chapter, 14x. Sophia, like Wendy, joins as a level 1 unpromoted unit, but what makes this really bad is the fact that she joins during the midgame, when a good portion of your army is likely promoted and you start facing a notable amount of promoted enemies. As for her bases, well they're all really terrible, aside from her resistance. Her 15 HP and 1 defense means that she will be OHKOed by pretty much every phisical unit in her joning chapter and her 3 constitution combined with her 4 speed and the high weight of dark magic tomes means she will also get doubled by every enemy as well and she will get one rounded by enemy magic users as well. Since, I just brought it up, Sophia is a user of dark magic, which is problematic in FE6. This is due to the low accuracy of said tome, combined with Sophia's 2 skill means that she will likely never hit anything. Along with that, her class is also a problem. While Shaman isn't a bad class in FE6 it also needs to compete with all other magic using classes in the game, for a guiding ring. To add even more salt to the wound there are only 4 guiding rings in FE6 (4 of them gotten very late), which means that Sophia needs to compete with units like Saul, Clarine, Lugh and Raigh for a promotion item, all of which are much better than Sophia.

Is there anything good about Sophia? Well, Sophia is the only unit that can get you the guiding ring in chapter 14, she has good movement in the desert, has 1-2 range access, can use the Nosferatu and Apocalypse tomes, comes with a C rank in dark magic, has OK growths for FE6 standards and can use staves upon promotion (only E rank though)

    Conclusion

Both of these units suck. Using them is almost always an active detriment and they bring parctically nothing to the table. As the series goes on it will be impressive if we manage to find someone worse than these two, because they set the bar so low you'd need to be practically unusable in order to be worse than these two. As such we're covering RD next time. See ya then.
