    Avatar worship is annoying, but it's a part of a bigger problem

    Ever played a modern FE game and got annoyed at how pretty much every person can't stop saying how amazing the avatar is. Entire scenes will be dedicated to characters just talking about how awesome Byleth, Robin or Kris are and they're so integral that victory is pretty much achieved only thanks to them. Fates and 3H decide who wins in each route based on which route the avatar chooses. They can also get together with everyone, Corrin in particular getting to marry their siblings as well. And we cannot forget how they're always among the best units in the game, Robin in particular being considered the best unit in all of FE, behind Leon. This is of course because the avatar is meant to be the player, so when a character in the game is praising the avatar, they're actually praising the player. This is because devs likely think that FE players don't have much going on IRL and need constant validation in order to keep playing the game. However, this is part of the bigger problem and that is that being constantly praised isn't a problem exclusive to avatars.

    Roy

    The most obvious example is Roy. Most scenes between Merlinus and Roy are about Merlinus being an idiot and Roy always making the right decision. Heck, even Murdock is really excited about being able to fight Roy. Roy is wise, humble, saves Cecilia, Lilina and many other and manages to even save Idunn from her brainwashing despite his young age. Heck, even his dad survives. Still, it's not like Roy doesn't have flaws. Roy is constantly mentioned to not be a very impressive swordsman and that he needs help from others in order to succeed. He also has a lot of self doubts and it's not like he can support everyone in the army or that he has women that obssess over him, besides arguably Lilina and that's not even that bad, as it's mostly a childhood crush between them.

    Alm (SoV)

    NOTE: Due to the lack of an official translation of Gaiden and disagreement from the fanbase wether the fan translations are accurate or not, I'll be only talking about Echoes Alm

    Alm is the more notable lord as he is far from an avatar or self insert character, but he does carry a lot of their worst character traits. Alm is the child of destiny, scion of kings, and basically an infallible, well-rounded Chad. Men like Clive or Tobin whish they could be as cool as him and women wish they could get to know him very very well. Heck, Alm even has a woman that can't stop obsessing over him like Camilla or Tharja in the form of Faye. But unlike Camilla and Tharja who have at least something more going on, Faye litterally has nothing else going on besides wanting to marry Akm and probably do some other stuff with him too. The only losses he faces is needing to be rescued by Celica once and killing his father. But really, it would be weirder if the father of the main lord didn't die. Actually, how did Eliwood survive FE6?

    A fun game I though up is take a drink everytime Alm wants something and then easely achieves that thing. Alm wants to leave the village, he does so quite easely. Alm wants to be a notable member of the Deliverance, he instantly becomes the leader. Alm wants to free Zofia, he does so almost instantly. Alm wants to save everyone, he likely does that if you're playing well. Alm wants to conquer Rigel, he does so with some difficulty. Alm wants to save Celica, degeat Duma, etc. Ultimately, Alm faces almost no defeats and achieves all of his goals without too much difficulty.It's almost comical to compare him to Celica as he needs far less help from other to achieve his goals and he achieves far more than Celica.

    Now, some of you might say that this is due to the fact that SoV is a remake of Gaiden and that this was how it was in Gaiden as well. Even if that really was the case, SoV isn't a faithful remake as it introduces original characters like Berkut and Conrad, so why not change some things about Alm as well if you're OK with changing other parts of the story?

    Ike

    Don't wanna harp on Ike too long, but his RD version is funny to me. Unlike Micaiah Ike is always on the right side, is incredebly buff, uses a huge sword with one hand, is very kind, an incredible fighter and ends racism because he was just so awesome.

    Conclusion

    Regardless of wether the next FE lord is an avatar or their own character we should try to ask them to be written with flaws and face defeats as well. Leif for example faces a lot of defeats, aside from having dead parents, but he manages to overcome those defeats and becomes a true hero. Ultimately, we should ask for more Leifs than more Alms.

    A stupid FE game idea: Rat emblem

    You heard it right: Fire emblem but with rats.

    Story basic Idea: The Rat kingdoms leader is killed and a power struggle ensues. The neighbouring holy mice kingdom offers a hand to your faction. As the story progresses you realize that the real culprit behind the murder is the Holy Mice Kingdom that unleashed The World Eater, a giant anaconda from the zoo (so it will be a dragon final boss basically)

    Location map ideas: The rat kingdom is underground and battles will take place in the New York sewers and subways. (I have only been to NY twice in my life and I don't live in the US so idk if it's accurate but I heard there's a lot of rats there)

    Unit ideas: PKnights: Pigeon riders, WKnights: Bat riders, Cavalry: Racoon riders, Basic classes such as fighter classes, swordsman classes, magic classes will exist also. I also think there should be a summoner like in Gaiden/Echoes but they are called Roachmancers and they summon roaches and centipedes (generic monster enemy unit) other classes can also be added. Im thinking clerics and other light magic users sure be mice bc they are from the holy kingdom.

    Character Ideas: Shopkeepers are hamsters as they escaped from the overworld and sell items found there. Mickealis (Mickey) mouse should be the totally not evil archbishop. Biggus (biggie) Cheese should be a super rich mini boss guy idk. Remirus (Remy) a chef that gives super gourmet star boosters. Stuart small (little) idk what he does

    Secret ideas: if you complete some secret quests you unlock a secret epilogue where it is revealed that Remirus controlled a human to unleash the world water in order to aid Mickealis to get the holy tome ratatouille and achieve culinary perfection.
