More Fire Emblem games should have a post game

    Posted: 26 Sep 2021 01:59 PM PDT

Just something that came to mind while playing Shadows of Valentia.

While the post game isn't amazing in echoes (you basically just sail to Plegia, learn about Grima's origin and then fight it), it did give some extra playtime and expand the world and story a bit more. I thought it was cool and I think it'd be interesting if more games in the series had them.

Here's some examples I thought of some possible post games for some other games in the series, mainly using the recent ones since they're the ones I'm most familiar with:

Awakening: Something kind of similar to the future past. Basically the parents heading to the future and protecting the kids in the background so they can gather the gems and escape to the past. Its simple but effective. There's also a couple of other things you could do with it like Robin having to literally fight for their life to come back, more time travel shenanigans like maybe heading to the past to see Grima's first resurrection or protecting Robin's mom so she can get them out of plegia or maybe something with plegia in the present since they're missing a king and I'm assuming a good chunk of them became dragon food.

Birthright/Conquest: Anankos attacking in full force since everyone is just recovering from the end of the war. You could even have everyone, except the child characters, dying in cutscenes after the stages (to show that neither nation could beat Anankos alone) and have the last two stages be the corresponding stages from Heirs of fate (1+3 for birthright and 2+4 for conquest) to show the aftermaths. Yeah, these would kind of be bad endings but I think it would have made the ending of revelations a bit better since there would be no bad ending there.

Revelations: Basically a mix of Hidden truths 1+2 and the last 2 Heirs of fate chapters. It answers some questions about the overall story and gives anankos a bit more character and story than he initially did so having them be post game could be interesting. Also if the player beat the birthright and conquest post games, it'd provide an ending to those stories too.

Crimson Flower/Azure Moon: Going after TWSITD (it's teased at the end of CF and while the main bosses are dead in AM, there's still a whole city of them left and I don't think Hubert left his note in AM).

Verdant Wind: Some stages outside of Fodlan basically having Byleth and Claude trying to bring all the nations surrounding Fodlan (Bridget, Almyra, etc) together with Fodlan as one.

Silver Snow: Basically just Byleth trying to rein in all of Fodlan since all the major leaders are either dead or have left. It could even give us playable Rhea.

Well those were my ideas, what do the rest of you think? Should fire emblem have more post stories or should the story finish at the ending? What games do you wish had post stories and what are some of the ideas you might have had for them (I assume there's gonna be some ideas of interludes between some games and their sequels)?

Is there something niche you've been enjoying lately? Something that's bigger on the series that most people take for granted but that you really want to give a shout out to? Do you fear being shouted down? If so, then you've come to the right place! Let's get some positive energy going today.

    Rules:

    1. Don't be negative about anything
    2. You have to talk about something FE related
    3. Mark your spoilers

What are the most interesting child builds you can do in Fates?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2021 10:18 AM PDT

The children units in Fates are garbage in terms of story relevance, but the skill and class inheritance system lets you do some crazy shit with them.

For instance, you can have Jakob obtain Rally Resistance and marry Azura, passing Rally Resistance to Shigure. Then insta-promote Shigure to Falcon Knight and have him learn Rally Speed. After that, you can use Jakob's class inheritance to change Shigure to Wyvern Lord and get Rally Defense. So just like that, you have a Shigure with three defensive rallies and a small heal.

Another silly example is having Silas marry Mozu in order to let Sophie inherit the Villager classline. If Mozu passes down Quick Draw, Sophie can stack that with Elbow Room to have a +7 damage stack on Player Phase. Promote Sophie to Great Knight via Offspring Seal for weapon ranks, then switch her to Master of Arms and get Life and Death, and now you have a physical Player Phase glass cannon with a +17 damage stack, capable of attacking with three different weapon types. Impractical, but fun as all hell.

What batshit crazy child builds have you guys pulled off in Fates? They don't have to be practical, or even that good, as long as they're fun.

Silas as an LI to Male Corrin

    Posted: 26 Sep 2021 02:30 PM PDT

Just me nit-picking here, so don't read too deep into this. I was always curious as to why Silas wasn't available as an LI to male Corrin in Fire Emblem: Fates. Niles was the only same-sex option for male Corrin, and Tharja was the only same-sex option for female Corrin. I heard that Azura was originally gonna be a same-sex option at one point before she was changed. Honestly, I don't see why Silas, Azura, Jakob, and Felicia, and Kaze aren't bisexual LIs, considering how they wanted to protect Corrin. While I have no issue with Niles, (I love him and am ambivalent to Tharja), I don't see why he'd be a same-sex LI in Fates over the others.

Fire Emblem x Magic: The Gathering- What Colors of Mana Would Various Characters Be?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2021 06:11 AM PDT

I was thinking about both games (FE and MtG) recently, and this got me thinking about how the various characters would be classified with regards to color identity if they were MtG characters rather than FE characters.

The character that first got me thinking this was Edelgard von Hresvelg. My initial conclusion is that Edelgard would be White-Black-Red ("Mardu") for her colors. Red for its emphasis on freedom, white for the order of her as the Emperor and for its combinations with red (heroism, as she sees her efforts) and black (the ruthlessness in which she is willing to go to bring her own interpretation of what is good for the group, and how she places her vision before that of others). For her, the color combination captures her revolutionary nature, but also how it is a revolution founded in her own personal vision of what is best for society.

Do you think that White-Black-Red is a fair interpretation of her? Or would you place her differently?

What of other characters? I was also wondering about Cordelia (likely primary White, but was wondering if her other classes like Sorcerer or other character traits might bring in multicolor traits). It doesn't have to be limited to them - any character in FE is fair game.

I know this is a somewhat niche topic, as one needs familiarity with both games for this one.

    Well, enjoy!
