/r/FireEmblem Best Of 2019 Awards: Submissions Posted: 29 Dec 2019 06:32 AM PST Hello, everyone! Happy Holidays, and welcome to the Fifth annual /r/fireemblem Best Of awards! After the slow 2018, 2019 has been a great year for Fire Emblem fans. We finally got the release of Three Houses for the switch giving us another main line Fire Emblem title along with the return to home consoles. Tokyo Mirage Sessions got a switch announcement so more people will get a chance to play it. 2019 was also fairly good for Heroes as well with many fan favorites finally getting added Submissions should be posted in this topic. New submissions will be accepted for about a week - 11:59:59PM PST on January 5th. After all submissions are collected, we moderators will narrow down the field to a selection of what we believe are the best candidates, and then will leave the determination of the winners to a community vote. Here are the details on submission guidelines:
The categories are as follows: Best Mechanical Discussion: This award is for the best individual contribution to discussion about Fire Emblem series mechanics. Contributions should be considered not only on their original insight but also on also on their presentation. That is to say, there is just as much merit to a dramatically new perspective on a character's viability as there is to a well-researched and well-put-together guide on character viability for people who aren't experts on the topic. Best Character/Story Discussion: This award is for the best individual contribution to discussion about the writing of the Fire Emblem series. Again, contributions should be considered not only on their insight but also on their presentation. Best Original Creative Work: This award is pretty much what it sounds like. Art, writing, music, or any other relevant application of the creative arts will be accepted in this category. Remember that the work in question needs to have been submitted to this subreddit either by the creator or with their direct recognition. Best Original Humor: The most straightforward award. We make a lot of jokes here, and this is for the best of them. Best Gameplay Exhibition: This award is for the most memorable displays of Fire Emblem gameplay over the course of the year. Raw skill need not be the sole determining factor - a memorable challenge playthrough, for instance, would also qualify. In your nomination posts, please provide a link to the item in question, the category for which it is being nominated, and a brief description of why you are nominating it. Please refrain from badmouthing other people's nominations, as we do not want to discourage submissions. However, please only nominate content that you legitimately believe to be deserving of the award. Obviously non-serious submissions will be deleted. Also, feel free to ask any questions you might have. Thank you very much, and we look forward to seeing your submissions! [link] [comments]

2 Radiant Dawn facts I found out recently Posted: 29 Dec 2019 04:18 PM PST 1.) In 3-F Mist straight up cannot attack Jill. I don't know if that's the same on the other Dawn Brigade vs Greil Mercenary maps, but it tears at my heart anyways. 2.) In Radiant Dawn Laguz gain gauge when attacked untransformed and lose gauge when attack transformed. Herons gain much less and lose much more than the others. Reyson, however, gains more gauge while untransformed and loses less transformed than his siblings. This is probably due to his admiration and mimicry of hawks. Don't really know if this warrants an entire post, but I think these tiny details are so cool. [link] [comments]

An observation/summary of Dimitri's perspectives on the goddess Posted: 29 Dec 2019 12:34 PM PST What I find pretty ironic about Dimitri is that for a guy who's supposed to be a Prince/King of a HOLY Kingdom, his personal faith with the Fodlan religion comes across as very pessimistic or indifferent. And what's disappointing is that you don't even find that information unless you go through his Goddess Tower conversation (aka, something that is easily missed without prior anticipation and never brought up again later on in his route): Dimitri: They say that wishes made in this tower will come true. I wonder who came up with such a silly notion. Byleth: You don't believe it? Dimitri: Legends are legends, nothing more. I doubt there are many who really believe that wishes can be granted. The goddess just watches over us from above…. That is all. No matter how hard someone begs to be saved, she would never so much as offer her hand. And even if she did, we lack the means to reach out and grasp it. That's how I feel about her. This piece of information actually hits quite hard especially when you read these two passages before or after the scene in the Garrach Mach library: The Book of Seiros Part 1 The Revelation The goddess is all things. She is heaven above and the land below. She is eternity incarnate. She is the present, the past, and the future. Her eyes see all. Her ears hear all. Her hands receive all. The Book of Seiros Part V The goddess cares for and protects all that is beautiful in this world. The goddess will never deny the splendors of love, affection, joy, peace, faith, kindness, temperance, modesty, or patience. Follow her example, and, in doing so, abide her laws. So essentially, Dimitri doesn't doubt or oppose the goddess like Claude or Edelgard, but more or less finds himself personally detached with the idea that she could save anyone as a result of his traumatic past and his own turmoil. Also, I want to add that things get a little awkward in Blue Lions Chapter 10, when Byleth fuses with Sothis and returns to Dimitri, telling him that the Goddess gave them her power: Byleth: A legend of old? Dimitri: Yes. The legend of Saint Seiros. It is said that she received a divine revelation from the goddess and was gifted with her power. Long ago, the goddess dispatched Seiros to defeat an evil king who went mad with power. Perhaps the goddess saw the goodness of Seiros within you too, and wished to help you in your quest to defeat evil. Hm. If you're Seiros, granted power by the goddess, then I suppose that makes me… Ah, never mind. I'm getting carried away. The safest interpretation for why Dimitri chooses not to specify where he fits in the Seiros myth is cause he's being modest like always and doesn't like being expressive of himself. Not to mention he could easily just mention he's Blaiddyd, and that therefore, he too was granted power by the goddess (of course, we are only going by the Seiros myth, not the actual historical Blaiddyd). However, a slightly darker interpretation is that Dimitri was genuinely afraid of where he fits. If the goddess provided help to Byleth for their goodness within, then Dimitri , a man who could never reach the goddess and who's also dealing with darkness within, probably suspected that he's the evil king that Seiros/Byleth will destroy. Either way, interpret that scene however you like. With that part covered, the remaining question is, does Dimitri's route ever bring up the topic of the goddess again? Well, there is the infamous Chapter 21 debate scene between Dimitri and Edelgard, where Edelgard also ends up drawing some parallel to Dimitri's outlook of the goddess: Dimitri: There are those who cannot live without their faith…and those who cannot go on once they have lost their reason for living. Your path will not be able to save them. It is the path of the strong, and so, it could only benefit the strong. Edelgard: Heh, so you consider me strong, do you? Even if one clings to their faith, the goddess will never answer them. Countless souls will be lost that way. Living without purpose. And I can be counted among those who have died that way as well. But that's why I must change this world, on behalf of the silent and weak! Suffice to say, Dimitri's personal faith never really gets explored much further. The only other place we can kind of see some development or resolution is through his final support convos with Marianne and Mercedes. For the final Marianne support, he more or less comes to the conclusion that atoning for his sins is perhaps why the goddess continues to let him live. Marianne also asks Dimitri what he thinks the Goddess wants for her, but Dimitri tells Marianne only she can know that for herself (he then starts going on about how he personally wants her to keep pushing on and how devastated he would be if she were to be lost). For the final Mercedes support, he's seen praying for something at the beginning, but otherwise, spends the rest of the support getting counseling from her. Ultimately, it seems that for Dimitri, Byleth and friends are the ones that he relies on and fights for. The goddess is there to just watch him carry on (similar to how Manuela views the goddess in her support convo with Edelgard). On a final note, I do find it interesting how all three lords have some form of grievance with Fodlan's goddess and yet, they all rely on Byleth (who wields/wielded the power of Sothis), to make their dreams come to life.
