[FE5 romhack] Thracia 776 Overclocked - What if Thracia but more ♪

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 03:55 PM PDT

Hey everyone, after working on most FE5 translations under the sun, I've decided to make a cool little romhack, for a change.

    SF thread: https://forums.serenesforest.net/index.php?/topic/92611-fe5-thracia-776-overclocked/

Overclocked is what happens when you decide to give every unit in the game 100% Vigor/Movement stars and see where it goes. Turns out, it gets a bit wacky.

There's more to it, though! * Units who used to have movement stars get perks to compensate (stats, skills, Prfs).

    • All turn-count based events happen ~twice as fast.

    • Maps are edited a bit to make the gameplay flow faster.

    • Narration and dialogue are shortened to a humorous extent.

    • A bunch of nice little quality-of-life things. Some of them you've probably seen in Lil' Manster, some of them new.

    • Experimenting with obscure unused mechanics in Thracia.

I doubt this will revolutionize romhacking, but hey, if you crave Thracia gameplay and want to try something new, this might be up your alley. =]

Expression on Three Houses so far after GD route

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 09:49 AM PDT

Apparently two months ago, I got into FE with my new Switch. If to be truly honest, I bought this console to play Three Houses especially, since I saw how good story, lore, characters is and how much discussion there're throughout the net. After completing BE first(and enjoying it) I completed Golden Deer route, because I knew it was a heavy-lore route and... boy, it was magnificent.

If Crimson Flower felt to me like personal, but yet intriguing war tale about how far one's ambitions could take you and testing your own resolve to reach them through countless sacrifices and stepping over your former comrade's corpses, the Golden Deer route was... I don't know how to describe it. The first chapters of Verdant Wind after time skip really felt like a you're a small group of people who opposes a giant war machine, who could squash you at any moment, if not Calude's careful planning. Then, after decisive battle at Gronder, you turn the tides in your favor, march on Enbarr and defeat Edelgard in her own palace. As soon as you come to Shambhala, this is where things get really, I mean REALLY interesting. From medieval setting, to Those who rave in the dark and Tron aesthetics which felt both creepy and mysterious.

But the main point for me, is not even the finale with Nemesis, but a big lore dump which comes after chapter 21. The true story of the world, about how Agarthans were slaughtered and banished into the underground, how Nemesis killed every last one of Rhea's kin and relics were made from their bones, hearts and blood, how the empire was founded. It was not that surprising for me, because I knew some of the details before or had suggestions, but still hearing it in-game SHOCKED me. It left me with feeling emptiness and quite a discomfort. Those legends about Ten Elites, heroic Nemesis were just nice lies, while the truth is awful and terrifying. This dialogue going with almost broken dying Rhea's voice made it especially impactful. While she's telling you all of this, you could really imagine Zanado and Canyon being painted in blood and bodies all over the place, or a terrifying war that happend between Nabateans and Agartha, that nearly destroyed the whole world, how strong Rhea's resentment and grief was. All of this worlds story, with its lore and legends, politics has started with primal conflict taking its routes in human arrogance and pride, who were so foolish to portray themselves as gods.

I really appreciate clever stories, which make you think and dwell deeper into how human nature can be endlessly dark at times. And I'm more excited to see Azure Moon, because I heard it's taking an interesting way to tell Dimitri's story. Fear the Deer, my friends!
