I made a list of how many times Shadows of Valentia's main leitmotif appears in its soundtrack Posted: 30 Oct 2020 06:05 PM PDT As a follow-up to my Fates soundtrack post, I made a list of how many times SOV's main leitmotif appears in the soundtrack. Unlike Fates and Three Houses, the main leitmotif heard in SOV's soundtrack is not actually its vocal theme, Heritors of Arcadia, but instead an unnamed melody that is heard throughout the soundtrack. Listen to two examples, here and here, to know what melody I am referring to. When listening to the soundtrack, I realized that Undiscovered Horizons appeared in a few of the tracks as a sort of secondary main leitmotif. I didn't list where in the music that it appears, but I did put an asterisk in the middle column of whichever songs had it play since it appeared enough that I thought it was worth highlighting. The only tracks I didn't list here are the amiibo battle songs because nearly all of them are just ripped straight out of previous games so of course they wouldn't have the leitmotif, and all of the fanfares and jingles since they're really short so of course they also wouldn't have the leitmotif, except for the level up fanfare, which actually does have the leitmotif in it, surprisingly enough. After counting all of them up, there are 32 tracks in the game where the main leitmotif is heard. There are 104 tracks listed here so that would mean the leitmotif appears in roughly 30% of the game's soundtrack. If we add in the tracks I omitted, then it would come down to roughly 27.5%. That's about half of the percentage of how many times Lost in Thoughts All Alone was heard in Fates' soundtrack, for those who were wondering about how the two compared to each other. Opinion on Boss Fights in Fire Emblem? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:45 AM PDT I'm working on a video looking at boss fights in Fire Emblem and am curious what the general consensus is. Personally (and I think this may be my big Unpopular Opinion about the series), I think most bosses in FE are bad, particularly stationary bosses on thrones. They tend to be either 1.) dodge tanks who way too obnoxious (Henning, Gomez, Hyman, Gel), especially on a blind playthrough where you might not have a trained Rutger or Asbel is fatigued for instance. Or 2.) they're sitting ducks for the players to bully. You sic a Jagen on them and wipe the floor with them or dunk on them with a wing spear or ridersbane. I think the problem is that stationary bosses take one of the key challenges of the games out of play, which is careful positioning and dealing with enemy movement. There is, of course, some strategy when dealing with bosses, but it's usually limited to variations of baiting out their weaker weapons, rescue-dropping characters out of range, or crit fishing. Sometimes there are nice wrinkles, such as trying to kill Gheb before he gets the chance to switch to his killer axe, but usually stationary bosses don't have motivators like that to deal with them quickly or strategically. To give an example of a boss I do like is Sealan from FE7. He's behind a long wall that he can run along to snipe at your guys, his longbow means that he's almost impossible to enemy phase unless you corner him, his dragonshield (on HHM) serves as a motivator to go out and kill him, and the time limit on the chapter means that you have to hurry. Sure, he's weak when someone (Marcus) gets to him, but the challenge was as much about drawing him into your range, careful positioning, and carving through the other enemies quickly enough to reach him in the first place. Sure, FE7 vets have no issues dealing with him (he's mostly a challenge on a first playthrough), but, to me, it's more dynamic than some dude who's just standing there, menacingly. Curious what everyone else's thoughts are on boss fights in FE! [link] [comments] | ||
