In your opinion, what is the best chapter in any Fire Emblem game?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 06:42 PM PDT

For me, it has to be Sacred Stones Eirika's chapter 14. The map design was amazing, the emotional weight felt deserved, the the reinforcements made for a fun challenge, and it was all around just an awesome level. (I was playing this without level grinding, so I understand that some people think the chapter is too easy, but is adored it)

About Fire Emblem Three Houses Cutscenes

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 07:21 PM PDT

This post well be more of a informative post about 3H's cutscenes, I see a lot of mis information and lack of knowledge on this subject when it comes to this. I am no expert but have done a fair amount of research on the subject/IS as a company. If anyone who knows more wants to correct me or you see something suspect please feel free to ask.

    The FMV's

Basically the opening cutscene stylized like Serios vs Nemesis opening scene. It was speculated even by me that these were done by studio Khara, instead they were done by Sanzigen, a 3d-cel shaded focus animation company. They have been outsourced and been helping with 3D animation in anime since there inception in 2003, their only real big video game projects being FE3H and Sakura Wards Link to Sakura OP to see for yourself As you can see with there Sakura wars and FE stuff, boy do they love moving that camera everywhere to try to give encounters scale.

People have brought up many different reasons why the cutscenes are the way they are but in the end of the day Sanzigen style of animation. In till IS changes studios there really isn't anything changing it.

Why do the older cutscenes (FE9-Fates) look different from SoV onwards

FE9, 10, 13 and 14 are NOT 3d animated, they were motion captured scenes commissioned by IS, Anima for the 3DS games i'm not 100% sure of the tellius games. There are motion capture credits in every one of those games and they do pass the eye test for being mocapped.

I would also like to speculate this was also a creative change in how IS wants to do their big FMV moments, I do remember a quote from interview confirming this talking about "the frame rate of the cutscenes were lowered to give the cutscenes a more traditional 2d anime feel" but I haven't found it since i first read it but I do swear on reading it in a interview with a IS director. However after SoV, 3H's FMV's and recent Heroes FMV's it seems to have been a pure creative choice., again, only speculation unless that quote was real. Also money is not a issue, never has been.

What about the Catherine Linato, battle of the eagle and lion and chapter 17 cutscenes? Why do those look so different?

Those were also motion captured. Koei Tecmo has a motion capture studio, and seeing how they arrived to help on the game i believe after the first big E3 reveal in 2018, its kinda of safe to say those cutscenes were added later. The mocapped cutscenes in 3H also closely follow the animation and style of the Fire Emblem Warrior story cutscenes , which were also all motion captured and made by KT.

What about the normal cutscenes in the game?

I believe this to also be a creative decisions since IS seemed to want to have support cutscenes and actual normal main plot cutscenes to have the same feel, and animating all those support cutscenes individually would have been way too much, so they opted to do that, or straight up the engine couldn't handle anything but that I am not sure. Either way that is just me again speculating based on the facts on hand. Also IS as a company lacks 3D animators, there a 190 employee company with over 50% of them being developers and programers, which is very unnatural of typical bigger studios. They don't have many employees directly named under "graphics and engine support" stuff and in general for a studio working on 3-4 major projects, 190 is a bit small especially if your working on multiple console titles. (190 is bigger then most Japanese studios tho)

This was my pointless post that will reach no one because its too long, will clear up no lies, and is about cutscenes in a video game so some will scoff at it, eh, i find it interesting at least.

    r/Fireemblem plays and discusses Hacks & Fangames #13: FEE3 2020 Special #2

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 01:15 PM PDT

    Jo, everyone!

Welcome to the 13th thread of this small community project, where we play, discuss, shill and promote Hacks & Fangames. For this thread and for next weeks, we will be having FEE3 special discussions, to promote and discuss the event currently happening.

While there's a pinned thread, i thought creating some more buzz won't hurt!

We are currently on Day 10 of FEE3, with alot of exciting projects being shown! Some new, some old, some never seen before, and some using their own unique engine!

Since i know alot of the projects or have played/tried them, i wanna mention ones that are personally new to me and took notice of them the first time this FEE3. Sadly i wan't able to watch everything due to the number and length of videos, but i will catch up, eventually!

Legends of Avenir looks very interesting to with it's splits and choices. It's something i will definetly play when it's completed!

Dracoseal a SRPG studio game that by the looks of it took it's insperation from FE4. The creator also posted a couple custom animation videos over at the FeU thread! Check it out!

Wrath of Justizia and The Story written by us both using their own engine and looking to play with some unique mechanics. Although very wip from the looks of it, i will be looking forward to more progress on those!

There're of course many more projects that those mentioned here that look unique and fun, and we still have 8 more days of FEE3 to come!

What projects cought your eyes? What are you looking forward to in the next 8 days? How have you been enjoying FEE3 so far?

Which FE Starting Squad is the Best Overall?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 06:16 AM PDT

So in every FE game you have a starting set of units in the first chapter that generally forms most of the core of your team.

This begs the question of, which one of those squads is the best?

By best I am talking about unit performance.

In most cases this squad will be counted as all units automatically recruited in Chapter 1 of the main story though some exceptions are noted:

FE4: All units auto-recruited before seizing the first castle in Chapter 1.

FE7 Lyn Mode: All units as of Chapter 2.

FE7 Hector Mode: All units as of Chapter 12.

FE8 Either Route: All units available at the start of chapter 9.

FE10: The Dawn Brigade by the end of Chapter 1-3, all units available in Chapter 2-1, and all units available in 3-1.

Fates: All units available at the start of chapter 7.

Three Houses: All units within the selected house.
