    Favourite Dark mage/ magic user

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 10:18 AM PST

I'm quite curious on everyone's favourite and less favourite black magic user. You don't really have to give any reason I wanna know. I'll start

    Favourite: Henry (fire emblem awakening)

He is a late addition to the Shepard's but I love him greatly. Not entirely sure on people's standing towards him but I just like how his interests and abilities are a juxtaposition to his enthusiasm and upbeat personality. He also creeps out many of his fellow mates even the other dark mage Tharja. I also really like his support with Ricken, it really highlights that in war there isn't really a "bad guy" and that people are just fighting for what they believe in/ protection. Overall I love his morbid yet childlike personality.

Least favourite: Hubert (fire emblem three houses)

I don't really understand much about him other than the want to protect Edelgard. I wish he had a bit more going for him than just dedicating his life for this one person. Most to all of his supports always mention Edelgard and at some point it just gets irritating.

Most of my likes and dislikes of a character comes from their personality and not really their strength as a unit.

"What If?" Wednesday, Chapter 16: Swinging Spooky Swords... and Axes

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 04:25 PM PST

    Chapter 15

Welcome, one and all, back to "What If?" Wednesday. It's been a spooky week, to be sure - and the election was only the half of it! Lame jokes aside, even as Halloween has passed us, I thought it might be a good time to bring up one of the spookier weapon varieties the series has had to offer.

Most weapons in the Fire Emblem series are judged by their ability to reduce the foe's HP. But there are a couple types of weapons that are best-known for reducing the HP of the unit wielding them. That's right, I'm referring to the Devil weapons. The Devil Sword and the Devil Axe have high Might, are usable from a fairly low weapon rank, and they might just kill you. The Devil Sword appears in the Archanea games, plus Three Houses; the Devil Axe appears in all of these, plus the GBA titles. In most of these titles, the weapon has a chance of "backfiring" on its user (generally the Luck cap, plus 1, minus current Luck value, as a percent) - in which case, the user suffers the damage that was meant for the target. But our latest outing to Fodlan changed all this - in that game, the weapon never backfires, but instead deals 10 damage to its user after every phase of combat. Note that this damage is never lethal - the unit wielding it will "bottom out" at 1 HP.

The question to ask, then, is that of the ol' switcheroo. What if pre-3H Devil weapons were changed, so that they functioned in their manner as of Three Houses? Alternatively, what if the Three Houses' versions of these weapons were reverted to their pre-3H mechanics? With either of these changes, would you be more or less likely to use Devil weapons? How would this affect your way of dealing with enemies who equip their own Devil weapons? Which version of this weapon category do you prefer - or, do you lack sympathy for the Devil? Do you want future games to see more Devil or Devil-like weapons - and if so, how would they work, mechanically?

Whew, that was a lot of saying the word "Devil". All of a sudden, I find myself craving chocolate cake! Or, perhaps, some hard-boiled eggs. But while I give in to my gluttony, let me know what you think on the general topic of these weapons. And, assuming I'm not too slothful, I'll share my own thoughts soon enough. Thanks!
