    Fire Emblem Fates Rebirth Hack Overview

    Hello! As you all may be aware, my name is Mayor of Smashville and I have been involved with the Fates/FE community ever since 2013, and have been playing the games for even longer. With my favorite game in the series being Fire Emblem Fates. I've heard the myriad of complaints about the Fates games, and agree with a lot of them. So instead of complaining even more about the games, I've decided to create a hack that remixes, rewrites, and redoes several aspects of the game while changing out certain gameplay mechanics for others that I hope will lead to a more enriching experience. This hacks name is not finalized but will be under the title of Fire Emblem Fates Rebirth as of right now.

    Main Campaign Gameplay

    This section will only include Birthright for now, but I just wanted to lay out my aspirations. The Birthright portion of the game will have more in common with Vanilla Conquest, with more varied map objectives, more turtling disincentives, and a more balanced cast where all can contribute to the game in some form or fashion. Though it will have a unique gameplay feel as I don't want it to be exactly like CQ, some maps have unfortunately been lifted from CQ because of some lack luster BR maps that can't be fixed without editing the actual 3D model of the map (Example: Shura's map in Br has been changed for Soleil's map).

    New Units to Route

    For BR, Zola and Flora will be completely new characters with Route specific supports, and their own sets of Endings. Hopefully they will be seamlessly integrated into the Newly Rewritten Birthright Story.

    For CQ, characters such as Rinkah and Fuga will be newcomers to this specific Route and will also have their appearances make a bigger deal during certain cutscenes of the CQ Route.

    For Rev, I do not have many ideas for this route's story as of yet since I am completely redoing it, but I see no reason to kill off either Izana or Scarlet. So these characters will most likely be permanent members of the Route.

    Unit Balance Changes

    There's also some balance changes to units to make some units better, and some of the more centralizing units to be given more weaknesses. Either through straight stat nerfs such as nerfing Ryoma's Defense, or more magic based enemies in CQ to go against Xander. When getting to Revelation there will be a massive overhaul on the gameplay side of things.

    Weapon Balance Changes

    There's been several changes made to some weapons and items to make them more or less broken. Either raising or lowering their rank, making it so that Shurikens only give 1 speed rather than 2, or making it so that you can't forge tomes and hidden weapons with a universal buff to the weapons Hit.

    Paralogues/Child Units

    Though some people would rather be get rid of Paralogues/Child units as it is stupid from a writing perspective. I've decided to keep them as getting rid of them would be a bad gameplay move. An improvement I've made that is universal to all routes, makes kids autolevel quicker than Vanilla which will make a lot of kids actually usable since they were not so great in Vanilla. Bad Paralogue maps will also be fixed like Ignatius, Shiro, and Siegbert who's Paralogue maps become almost impossible on a higher level difficulty.

    Post-Game

    Yep that's right, a complete non-canonical post-game for after you've completed a specific route. How this will work is that you will be able to play every non-BoF map again but instead with Endgame level stats, conditions, and skills to their repertoire. Obviously, there will be enemy positional changes to take on account for their new Mov in promoted classes, but case and point this will include around 22 redone maps after you complete the main campaign. While also still be able to grind for supports, and have units that may have died during the story come back to life. (Basically just there for a certain character that dies after Endgame).

    Side Stories

    The game will also have a new type of map called "Side Stories" where you will see stories that take place during the events of the war from a differing perspective. Such as for Birthright, you will see Ryoma going undercover in Cheve and building his friendship with Scarlet, while also in CQ you will see the secret tasks that Xander and the other siblings had to do while Corrin was dealing with the Ice Tribe, Port Dia, and Cheve. All culminates to further the older siblings development, and to give points of the story where we don't have the entire focal point of Corrin.

    MyCastle Replacement

    This ones a huge step for this mod, but since there will be no online play for obvious reasons, I saw mostly positives in this change. Basically, there is a hack in development called MyCastle Replacement by thane98, which seeks to replace MyCastle, and instead add places called Encampments. An encampment is basically a map that has the same functionality as MyCastle but it not only takes place on Battlefields you already conquered, but also allows some key differences in terms of said functionality.

    For example, after each map you can talk to a certain unit which will allow you to go on something called a Side Quest. More on that for the next section, but basically a Side Quest will let you participate on a map, in where you cannot gain EXP, but how you do on the map will also give you rewards depending on how well you did. Checking on how well you did basically is checking certain things like seeing if you saved a good amount of villagers, how fast you completed the map, etc. These will allow you to obtain non-Vanilla weaponry if you did an exceptional job. However each Side Quest will only be available for that chapter, and when you move on to further the campaign you will no longer be able to enter the map.

    Another addition is Base Conversions, where after each map you will be able to talk to a unit on your camp which will have a chapter-specific piece of dialogue after every main campaign chapter. This will also include if you are married to that person, so overall there will be thousands of base conversations in the final release where characters will talk about current events in the story from both a friendship or a marriage partner perspective. Generic soldiers will also populate these maps who will either give a background on the war effort, or simply be there to give flavorful world building.

    There's also another few ideas, but I would like to present a video later of showcasing MCR when thane98 had completed the mod himself. This will also see to fixing a common complaint people have with the Base game that MyCastle seems to stop the flow of the story cause it just seems randomly placed.

    Graphical Changes

    Some also other misc. changes will be

    • Jakob, when a Great Knight, uses the same design as Gunter for his Armor. A reference to their bond, and as Jakob's main father figure. Idea from Green Unit.
    • Zola, when a Onmyoji, uses the same design as Izana for his clothing. A reference to his brief stint as impersonating the Archduke. Idea from Green Unit.
    • Ryoma, when a General, uses the generic Helmet when he is in this class. A reference to Ryoma's disguise when he posed as a Nohrian to help Cheve.

    And in the future will be completely covering up the female Nohrian designs except when those would actively interfere with their characterization. (AKA Charlotte)

    Rewrite

    Not giving too many details at the moment at the specifics, but the game will boast a pretty substantial rewrite of the entire games main campaign, while leaving most supports unchanged unless they are noticeably conflicting with the new story, mention My Castle, or their name starts with a P and ends with an I.

    Basically the whole thought of the rewrite is to enhance the world building in the game, while also presenting Corrin as more of an actual character who has to live with his decisions and be allowed to grow as a character. For example, Corrin in BR will learn to stand by his beliefs and the justice and kindness that was imparted from his Nohrian siblings against them. To adhere to his beliefs even though, initially, he hesitated and almost had his life ended by Xander cause he wouldn't lift his blade to fight him.

    Current Progress

    Currently we are halfway through the main campaign gameplay-wise of Birthright, and have done many balance changes to present what I hope to be is a fun route teeming with strategy with differing ways to encounter enemies.

    Each round will last about 24 hours in between each other. Rate the units in each tier, and give clear explanations as to why. Feel free to comment on each other and discuss why you agree or disagree. Be polite, and remember, this is all in good fun.     Rules:

    • The game is played somewhat efficiently. No grinding, boss abuse, etc.
    • The game is played on the NA Hard version
    • Killing enemies quickly is good. Killing enemies slowly is bad. Anything that results into either of these directions, be it high offensive or defensive stats, movement, 1-2 range, availability, etc is fair game. Finishing chapters quickly is cool too.
    • Personality and other story-related things do not matter. Sorry, everyone's a robot.
    • All characters are recruited. Recruitment cost is thus a non-issue.
    • This is not an LTC playthrough, so there's no need to go that extreme. But it's not a completionist one either.
    • Supports are acknowledged as a part of the character's viability
    • Votes must have an explanation with them. I'm not asking for a paragraph but the bare minimum is a sentence or two describing why you're putting X unit into Y tier. If you do not put an explanation under your votes, your vote shall not be counted
    • When it comes to resources like BEXP, characters are tiered with how well they make use of possible resources, if they have other competition for said resources and how well they perform without them. Arguments as to why a certain units deserves investment are important.
    • Be respectful

    Tiers Being Used:

    Fantastic Performance: S

    Insanely useful from the get go, always a dominant force from the moment they arrive and require little investment if any. Contributes in a significant enough manner that they always sticks out and have a substantial role. The game changes substantialy when these units are sidelined.

    Includes: Titania

    Great Performance: A

    Extremely useful and always a good addition to a team. Doesn't require too much investment and if they do then it's enough to make them stand out compared to most units. Biggest things holding them back are that they either don't stand out as much as the S tiers or even with investment they aren't as dominant in their role as the S tiers.

    Includes: Oscar

    Good Performance: B

    Is pretty useful and has some sections of the game where they stand out and help. Overall solid, isn't the most significant unit, but definitely contributes in a helpful way. Aren't the highest priority when it comes to deployment, but will definitely be one of your deployment options to fill out your team. Biggest things holding them back are good but not amazing stats, not the best class access, not the best weapon access and maybe not the best availability. Good, but has some significant flaws that hold them back from being great.

    Includes: Ike, Boyd

    AOK Performance: C

    Perfectly average, they do work and can become pretty good with investment but do fine without investment. At the end of the day they are just serviceable, neither a detriment nor a priority when it comes to being used and are essentially filler.

    Iffy Performance: D

    Can perform a niche role and do something, but generally aren't that useful. Don't really do much and if they do something unique then it's usually done much better by a bunch of other units. Severely outclassed by most other units and while they can do something, it's usually pretty bleh in execution.

    Lame Performance: E

    Straight up bad, no way around it. There are very few places where they are actually useful, and they are actively difficult units to use effectively. Can probably do something at base such as heal other units, rescue canto others or chip stuff with effective weapons but it's such a bare minimum contribution that calling them good would be a stretch. They can do something, that's the most you can say for them. Other then that they're bad.

    Meme Performance: F Rank

    These units are just really bad, complete bottom of the barrel. So bad that even with an insane amount of investment they either end up still bad or at best incredibly mediocre and this is accounting for immense babying and all stat boosters going to them. E ranks can at least do something that counts as contribution. These units can't even have that as a claim to fame, they're so bad that they just do little if anything in a non casual/non meme context.
