On May 25th, barely a week ago, George Floyd was brutally murdered by a police officer who laid him on his stomach and crushed his neck with a knee. Two other officers held him down, and another stood watch to prevent bystanders from intervening. He was killed because of a possibly counterfeit twenty-dollar bill.

In a country where a white man can shoplift with a weapon, have a 19-hour standoff and still be safely taken into custody, or another white man can kill nine parishioners of an African-American church and still be apprehended alive and afforded a trial, it is abundantly clear that there is a problem with ingrained, systemic racism. As much as we all would like to believe otherwise, the fight for equality in the US did not end with the signing of the Constitution. It did not end with the Confederacy's defeat in the US Civil War. It did not end with the Civil Rights Act of 1871, or 1957, or 1964. It is still ongoing, and the latest in a long string of police brutality shows that it's nowhere close to being over.

We understand that this subreddit is not only visited by American users; many English-speaking users from across the world frequent the subreddit to share their passion for Fire Emblem here. However, when RedditTM gives a very weak response to this tragedy and fails to address their own part in allowing a platform for racists to say their piece, it falls to the communities to affirm that racism will not be allowed in their spaces.

So we would like to remind our users that racism, bigotry, and intolerance of others is unacceptable in this subreddit. Fire Emblem is a series about rising up to oppression and bringing an end to hostility; as both Tellius and Three Houses have shown, this includes internal, systemic reform and equality for everyone regardless of background or station. It is natural that we take the time to address a widespread, global movement that seeks to enact change for the betterment of society.

Being silent in the face of injustice and oppression is taking the side of the oppressor. Upholding the status quo in the name of "neutrality" does nothing for those who are being grinded upon the iron heel. With that in mind, we would like to do what we can in these turbulent times. To that end: we encourage our US users to join any local protests if you can. Petition your senators, representatives, and other elected officials to take action. Make your voices heard and put pressure on those in charge, those who have the privilege of effecting change.

For people who are able to donate, these are some resources we have compiled to help you find places beyond the Minnesota Freedom Fund:

We recommend you do further research into any group that you are considering donating to, but hopefully this list will give you a starting point.

There is also a petition here that is aiming for 100,000 signatures to force a response from the Whitehouse. While it's most likely to get a half-hearted and evenly-measured response, every little exposure of the corrupt elite's willingness to see civilians slaughtered helps tear down the wall of injustice.

Lastly, for those wanting further reading on systemic racism in the US, JSTOR has compiled a healthy amount of material on the subject. It is important to see how this racism goes beyond police brutality and encroaches on other parts of life in easy-to-miss ways, from housing loans to public schooling material. We must not remain willfully ignorant to the suffering of others.

    Black Lives Matter.

The real question we should be asking about Edelgard's Emperor class

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 07:32 AM PDT

Apparently the armor has been passed down through the ages from Wilhelm himself which leads to two questions. One; how has it not crumpled away into dust by this rate and two; how many times did it have to be reshaped for whenever the Emperor was the opposite gender of the previous one?

Or was Wilhelm into crossdressing all this time and we never knew?

I need to vent about FE:3H game mechanics

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 04:57 PM PDT

This assumes playing on Maddening (I've done BE/Hard/Casual, BL/Maddening/Casual/NG+ and am midway though GD/Maddening/Casual/NG+)

Here are the worst mechanics in the game in order starting with the worst offender:

    1. Reinforcements. Looking at you almost every Paralogue map (Stares intently at Black Market Scheme). You know the drill. An unknowable trigger causes reinforcements to randomly spew out of some area of the map right next to your healer. Which might even be acceptable...except they get to move before you. Who thought this kind of BS would be fun? At best it's a forced rewind, at worst it's a map restart because you need to rework your entire strategy on this stupid unknowable trigger. I can't even imagine the frustration on Classic mode.

    2. Enemy Crits. Player crits are fun. Killing an enemy a turn early allows for adjusting your strategy using your better position. The 2% crit from an enemy archer that causes you to burn a rewind and rethink your whole turn/entire existence is dumb af. And heaven help you if you play Classic. Randomly watching DeDue DeDie to a fister that crits 3/4 hits with a 5% crit chance hurts, but having to reload cause you play Classic has gotta make you wanna die.

    3. Pass. On Maddening EVERY SWORDMAN Has this ability. Why put effort into building maps with choke points when 1/3 of the enemies walk by DeDon't and decapitate poor Annette. The archers all having apparently mastered the Dark Mage class (Poison Strike) is annoying but still less BS than Passmen.

    4. Gendered and Missing Classes. Sorry Linhardt (Gremory), Lysithea (Dark Bishop), Jeritza/Hubart (Valkyrie), all male magic users not named Hubart (Dark flier), all males with naturally high Res (Falcon Lord) ect. Also sucks for the classes that just kinda...don't have an upgrade. Mostly Paladin but there are others that are forced to train skills they care nothing about to move to a Master Class.

Thank you for coming to my rant.

What are your favorite subtle details in Three Houses?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 07:41 AM PDT

One thing I really enjoy about Three Houses is the deliberate choices that they make in character designs and actions that fully make sense once you understand what's going on. It definitely helps with follow up play throughs since you'll have an epiphany of the true meaning behind someone's words, appearances, or actions when you look at things with a fresh set of eyes. While some details are readily apparent once the connection is made, there appear to be many subtle ones that can be missed in subsequent play throughs. So, what are some small details that you found or enjoyed in three houses?

My personal favorite is the detail to Cyril's counselor notes, which is just text describing a drawing Cyril makes concerning his predicament, which is parallel to his characterization in his Lysithea support chain where he reveals he is illiterate (though it does make you wonder how he passes the certification exams).

Another small detail I like is that the sword of the creator in the opening cutscene does contain the crest of flames crest stone (best seen in the frames before Seiros picks it up). I was personally expecting them to use the model we use in game and just hide the hole by having it out of frame, but they didn't, and I commend them for that.

I could also go on about the subtle character interactions you get before battles occur, with the most blatant ones being Flayn interacting with The Immovable and The Wind Caller which helps confirm their identities. Though there are most likely some other crucial ones I have missed here too.
