Posted: 25 Oct 2020 04:23 PM PDT Just off the top, this isn't any sort of deep analysis on Fire Emblem's use of weather or lack thereof in the history of the series, just something to prompt some discussion on the topic. Also, I don't personally count Fog of War as "weather" for the purposes of this discussion, so I won't be including it. I feel "Is Fog of War an interesting mechanic?" is a question worthy of its own subject separate from this one. Weather is a bit of a contentious mechanic, with a lot of outspoken haters, but a few staunch defenders as well. The first real use of weather in Fire Emblem came with Blazing Blade in the form of rain and snowstorms (there were snowstorms/sandstorms in Binding Blade, but they served as nothing more than excuses for standard Fog of War gameplay). Once and a while the weather would act up and everyone's movement would be slowed. This did little more than serve as an annoyance for the player, basically turning the map into a desert map for a little while (which itself has few fans) except you don't even get units that can bypass the movement limiting aspect. Fortunately that was not only the first, but also the last time we saw proper "weather" in Fire Emblem. Future occurrences would simply be aesthetic. EXCEPT! I believe Fates brought back a concept of weather in a potentially interesting fashion. Fuga's Wild Ride for example has wind gusts that can be used to the player's advantage or disadvantage depending on positioning and use of dragon veins (although the actual end result of this mechanic's fun factor is...up for debate). Maps like Hinoka's and the ship map where you could summon gusts that slow down fliers are also certainly interesting uses of "weather" however in my opinion. I think what is important is that the weather can be used to the player's advantage in a proactive manner, allowing you to satisfyingly implement it into your game plan rather than just feeling impeded by it. But what do you think? Would you like to see weather brought back in the future? How do you think it'd be best to implement the mechanic? [link] [comments]

Who is your favourite NPC character in Fire Emblem? Posted: 25 Oct 2020 03:12 PM PDT We talk about who our favourite units are, but who would be your favourite NPC character of all time out of all the games you've played. They can be playable allies, people in the story, or even villain characters. [link] [comments]
