    Popular Opinion Thread

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 08:42 AM PDT

Hey there r/FireEmblem. Are you tired of people coming at you with their flaming hot takes (which are usually mild at best)? Bored of the contrarians? Had enough anger and vitriol? I haven't, but maybe you have! So let's talk about opinions that a ton of people agree with!

How about that Lucina? Pretty cool character, right?

I think Shadows of Valentia had great voice acting, especially Berkut! No I mean seriously I could listen to Ian Sinclair all day, this is not a joke.

Three Houses? Could have looked better than it does.

Next game needs an actual protagonist

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 06:01 AM PDT

It kind of bothers me that Awakening, Fates and Three Houses all has these "blank slate" protagonists, who in best case is just a mary-sue-ish vanilla good guy (Robin) or, in the worst case, is devoid of all kind of personality (Byleth). I can't help but think that these games would have been better had they treated these main characters as actual characters, similarly to how they treat Chrom/Xander/Edelgard/etc. Do you hope/think that this will change for the next non-remake game released?

Summarizing all the FE games in an intentionally bad way

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 05:22 PM PDT

I think I saw a post like this somewhere before so I thought I'd do it for fun.

Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light/Shadow Dragon: Prince gets kicked out of his country so he fights to get it back after not doing so for like 5 years. Kills a crazy wizard and dragon too, then gets engaged.

Gaiden/Echoes: Shadows of Valentia: Farmboy finds out he's royalty and his childhood friend is too. He kills the evil emperor who turns out to not be evil and also his dad, then kills the crazy dragon to rule the continent with his girlfriend who he accidentally killed once.

Mystery of the Emblem (Book 2)/New Mystery of the Emblem: Prince from the first game is told by a general of another country to leave to stop a rebellion, then gets his country taken again. He reclaims it, kills a depressed man who got possessed and evil from a rock, kills the revived crazy wizard and dragon from the first game, marries his fiancée, and accidentally becomes ruler of the continent.

Genealogy of the Holy War: Prince just tries to do what he thinks is right but his (unbeknownst to him) brother-in-law kills him and (almost) all his friends after kidnapping his wife. 17 years later, his son and his friends want revenge, and his son kills the brother-in-law (son's uncle) and son's brother-in-law who was crazy because he got possessed by a book. Also accidentally becomes ruler of the continent if the player is really bad.

Thracia 776: Cousin of son from previous game fights to liberate the country that killed his parents. Get his kidnapped sister back and gets an adoptive brother with her.

The Binding Blade:>! Son takes over his dying father's role of ruler of an army to fight against the king who hates humans and is trying to take over the continent. He kills the king and gently puts a soulless dragon to sleep to stop her from making more soulless dragons.!<

The Blazing Blade: 20 years before the previous game, the man who's not a father yet and also not dying yet searches for his own father with his old best friend and new best friend. He gets revenge on his father's killers and kills a random dragon his girlfriend/friend who's a girl accidentally summoned.

The Sacred Stones: Twin prince and princess kill their best friend who got possessed by a rock when he was depressed after his dad died. Prince becomes king much to his disappointment.

Path of Radiance: Mercenary tries to avenge his father's death but accidentally becomes a lord instead. Also kills a crazy king who is the master of his father's killer.

Radiant Dawn: Girl hates mercenary from previous game because he accidentally made her country a crappy place to live. She later helps him kill the evil part of her pet bird and becomes queen of her country. Also turns out she's part bird too. And I guess mercenary got his revenge finally.

Awakening: Prince decides to put the lives of himself and his army in the hands of an amnesiac he finds sleeping in a field. Also his daughter from the future comes to stop the amnesiac from killing him. Then they kill the amnesiac from the future. Also he got married at some point and had at least one kid.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE: High schooler wants to support his best friend in becoming an idol but accidentally becomes her manager. Also like 10 other people's managers. Also he technically died or something once too. Features song and dance but literally NONE of the bards/dancers from any previous games (at least to my knowledge). At least in the rerelease/remake Azura is kinda referenced?

Fates: Royal who lived a secluded life either:

    1. Helps the Japanese country fight the European country so s/he can kill her/his dad
    2. Helps the European country fight the Japanese country so s/he can kill her/his dad
    3. Helps neither country so s/he can later help both countries so that s/he can kill her/his ACTUAL dad

Warriors: Twin royals want to neglect their royal duties and have the other pick up the slack. After references to a whole 3/11 of the previous main series games (in the main story at least), they both became rulers of their country.

Heroes: Princess is lonely so she magically forces people to become her friends. Royals of another country don't like that so they summon a random person from somewhere to be their tactician as they free the people by beating them up. And then fire giants attack. And then dead people attack. And then fairies attack.

Three Houses: Mercenary becomes a teacher after saving a student's life (s/he failed the first time though). S/he either:

    1. Teaches a princess' class and then kills the pope
    2. Teaches a prince's class and kills the princess, then becomes the pope
    3. Teaches a noble's class and then kills the princess and a zombie dude, then becomes the ruler of the continent
    4. Teaches the princess' class but then kills the princess and maybe the pope, then becomes the pope
