Fire Emblem Wiki (.org) update; loading time improvements, new content, and more

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:00 AM PST

Hello, everyone! I'm a staff member/patroller for the NIWA Fire Emblem Wiki, fireemblemwiki.org. While I'm not particularly high-up in the ranks, I still wanted to make a brief post to share with you some recent changes to our site. Over the past couple of months, we've made some significant changes to our server, code, etc. to hopefully improve the experience of browsing it significantly.

Some of the important changes made to the Wiki include:

    • Moving its host to a new, more robust server
    • Updating the wiki to run on the newest stable version of MediaWiki, v. 1.35
    • Reorganized staff management, including new bureaucrats/admins and demoting former administrators that have not been active for a long time
    • Altering several templates and even creating new ones to both optimize performance and provide more useful information
    • In particular, the new chapter page templates now include fields for unit stats, meaning we can now provide generic enemy stats in a simple, relatively easy-to-read way!
    • Moving several style templates to instead be part of the Wiki's global CSS to further reduce page size and improve performance
    • Some particularly large pages such as our article on Marth have been split into subpages to again improve loading times

Overall, the changes we have made to templates, CSS, and others have massively reduced most pages' size in bytes, which will allow them to load a good deal faster—since a common criticism of our site was slow loading times, we hope that these changes will alleviate these problems significantly for users.

Currently, a good deal our chapter pages for the maingame of Awakening, the Azure Moon route of Three Houses, and the DLC campaign Cindered Shadows now contain generic enemy stats (HP, Str, Mov, etc.) for all difficulties. Three Houses is still currently a work-in-progress, Awakening's maingame pages are almost finished, and we will begin to add stats for Fates pages soon. Other users have also been hard at work adding more information such as script pages for Three Houses, in-battle sprites for Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776, and more.

If you wish to help us document more stats, or if you want to help the Wiki in any other way, come join us! If you want to ask for help on how to use some of our new templates, feel free to ask us on our Discord server. I hope we can continue to be a useful resource for any player who needs it.

    People's opinions on Thracia 776

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 01:37 PM PST

So I just finally beat Thracia! This is my third FE game (after Path of Radiance and Blazing Sword). I found it definitely harder that the other two. I played what I would consider "semi- blind" and it took me a while to get through some parts. But it is also my favorite of the three. There is something about the difficulty that makes it more rewarding when you actually win.

I really liked a lot of the map design, thought that they were unique feel really well integrated with the story. I also surprisingly like the fatigue mechanic, it forced me to have use a more diverse cast of characters. There were some mechanics/parts of the game that I really didn't care for. Mostly capturing and the fact you can't easily position your players.

I know people have some polarizing opinions on this game. Curious what you think the good and the bad parts of it are.

Question? What's your favorite insult from fire emblem?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:54 AM PST

I have been recently playing through Radiant Dawn for the umpteenth time. Near the end Yune asks "How would you like to be called a dark bag of organs?". It made me giggle imagining calling someone that. Fire emblem has some pretty creative dialogue, so I started wondering what everyones favorite insult from the series are. Bonus points if you've actually used it irl.

Brigid is arguably one of the most OP characters in the series

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:17 AM PST

**Slight spoilers for FE4 and FE5**

Brigid can not die. Or, to put it more accurately, by giving up her memories she can avoid death due to a pact with a dragon. It happened to her as a kid, and happened again later as an adult. Both times she as able to escape a certain death at the cost of her memories.

However, when she gets access to the family heirloom bow, Yewfelle, she regains her memories. And when she lost them again as an adult she regained them after around 20 years without Yewfelle.

This means, so long as she regains Yewfelle, or has memories to spare, then she can not die. She's immune to starvation, drowning, murder, maybe even old age and disease. Thus, making her one of the most OP characters in the series when you also consider she has some really good stats, especially in FE5.

Frederick, Marcus, Seth, Jagen, Haar, whoever, for as strong as they are, will succumb to death in one way shape or form no matter what. But, Brigid? She can't be killed no matter what on top of being strong as hell. So, she's easily one of, if not, the strongest humans in the series.

TL;DR: Brigid is really powerful and completely immortal
