What characters do you feel are liked more for being a girl?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 06:51 AM PDT

Recently been thinking more and more about Cyril, how it's unfortunate he doesn't have as many people liking him but Lysithea is loved by so many when the two are very similar. So I was wondering if this was the case for other characters.

What Fire Emblem communities exist in languages besides English and Japanese?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 06:17 AM PDT

Title. I'm very curious as to where other language speakers discuss FE. I know of FEWoD but besides that I'm not too familiar as to which communities are "big" in each language (e.g., French, Portuguese, Mandarin).

History of Marth in Fire Emblem - A False Swipe Gaming inspired idea

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 11:45 AM PDT

Hey everyone, today I will be analyzing Marth throughout the games in the Fire Emblem series. Marth has been in 4 mainline Fire Emblem games so I will go through each of those and analyze his standing each game, how he preforms, and his strengths and draw backs. This was inspired by a youtube channel called False Swipe Gaming, which is a channel that analyzes the history of a given Pokemon in competitive throughout the gens. I love those videos so I wanted to try and analyze a Fire Emblem unit in a similar way. So without further ado *FSG voice* "How GOOD was Marth ACTUALLY"

Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light

    Class: Lord

    Base Stats: Level: 1, Str: 5, Skl: 3, Spd: 7, Lck: 7, Def: 7, Res: 0, Wlv: 5, Mov: 7
    Growth Rates: HP: 90%, Str: 50%, Skl: 40%. Spd: 50%, Lck: 70%, Wlv: 30%, Def: 20%, Res: 0%

Marth is quite possibly the best unit in the original game. While at a glance, his base stats may seem unimpressive, his 7 base speed is still enough to double the pirates in chapter 1. Marth has some of the highest growth rates in the game, specifically, his 50% strength and speed growths, as well as his 90% HP growth. These by themselves would make Marth a decent unit, but Marth has swords, which are the best weapon type in FE1. FE1 has no weapon triangle so swords weigh the least and allow Marth to easily double. He also has the Rapier, which is very good at slaying cavalry. All of this combined with the fact that the AI will always target Marth if they can, allows Marth to easily snowball and became absurdly powerful. He becomes one of the best boss killers in the game, which makes warp skipping chapters by having him kill the boss very easy and very efficient. Marth is the only one who can seize thrones anyways. Plus, you can buy Rapiers in this game, so Marth should always have one to kill this games assortment of cavalry and armored bosses. Later in the game, Marth gains to personal weapons, the Mercurius (yes, it was a Prf for Marth in this game), and the Falchion. The former is a powerful 18 mt sword that can allow Marth to gain 2 stats per level as opposed to 1, and the Falchion, which has less Mt than the Mercurius, but does triple effective damage to dragons, and makes Marth immune to all enemy attacks that aren't dragons. Lastly, while its not usually attributed to his utility, Marth is the only person who can visit villages, which is mostly just responsible for getting you a lot of money and is a double edged sword, as if he's visiting a village, he can't be attacking or seizing on that turn, and the Fire Emblem acts as an infinite chest key, giving him thief utility. Overall, Marth is an amazing unit in the OG Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light.

    Mystery of the Emblem

    Class: Lord
    Base Stats (Book 2): Level: 3, Str: 6, Skl: 8, Spd: 9, Lck: 8, Def: 7, Res: 0, Wlv: 7, Mov: 7
    Growth Rates: HP: 90%, Str: 50%, Skl: 40%, Spd: 50%, Lck: 70%, Wlv: 40%, Def: 20%, Res: 3%

Marth.... has received a good number of nerfs from the original NES game. A few of the bigger ones are that the AI no longer only targets him if he's in range, he lost personal access to the Mercurius, and you don't get warp until much later in book 2, meaning that Marth's ability to 2 turn chapters with the help of a unit like Lena is gone. Despite these things, Marth still remains a fairly good unit in FE3. His growth rates are actually slightly higher, with 10% more in weapon level, and 3% more in resistance lol. This means that Marth can still snowball relatively easily if given the exp for it. No weapon triangle still means a lot of units prefer swords, as they are the lightest weapon type, and Marth is no exception, having swords is a huge boon for him as it allows him to use powerful weapons like the Levin Sword or Silver Sword. In addition, FE3 also has dismounting on indoor maps, meaning Marth has an edge over dismounted mounted units, with his superior movement (crazy I know). Overall, despite being nerfed a bit, Marth still remains a pretty good unit in FE3, with a lot of his boons from the first game still present.

    Shadow Dragon (DS)

    Class: Lord
    Base Stats: Level: 1, Str: 5, Mag: 0, Skl: 3, Spd: 7, Lck: 7, Def: 7, Res: 0, Mov: 7
    Growth Rates: HP: 80%, Str: 50%, Mag: 6%, Skl: 40%, Spd: 50%, Luck: 70%, Def: 20%, Res: 2%

As opposed to the past 2 games, Marth is not very good in the DS remake of the first game. One of the main reasons for this is the fact that weapon triangle exists now, and with this game being made up of a majority lances, Marth struggles a lot with kills he used to get fairly easily. He does have his Rapier, which is nice, but it only has the same Mt as an iron sword, and when he has effectiveness, he's usually facing weapon triangle disadvantage anyway, so it requires a lot more in forging to just be as useful as something like Caeda's Wing Spear, which on Hard 5 can kill cavs and armors at +4 or +5 mt, whereas Marth struggles to do the same thing with the Rapier at even +6 mt. Other effective weapons such as the Ridersbane, Hammer, and Dragonslaying weapons all take priority over the Rapier. Marth also never promotes, which wasn't a problem before, but now that promo bonuses are huge, and stat caps are higher, Marth really wishes he could have one, as those buffs to his stats would really help him out, and even though he can level to 30, he still wishes he could just have promotion bonuses instead. The worst part about Marth is that even at capped speed, he still gets doubled and one rounded by Medeus on Hard 5. Overall, Marth still has utility, as you need him to seize and visit villages/open chests, but on the higher difficulties, his combat is really poor, that it usually isn't worth training him all that much, as he never really goes anywhere.

    New Mystery of the Emblem

    Class: Lord
    Base Stats: Level: 6, HP: 26, Str: 8, Mag: 0, Skl: 10, Spd: 10, Lck: 9, Def: 8, Res: 0, Mov: 7
    Growth Rates: HP: 90%, Str: 60%, Mag: 0%, Skl: 65%, Spd: 65%, Lck: 80%. Def: 30%, Res: 5%

Thankfully for Marth, he received quite a number of buffs in FE12 to make him much better than he was in FE11, for one thing, his base stats are a lot higher, and his growth rates are higher too, even higher than they were in FE1 and 3. His being sword locked also isn't as much as a killer as it is in FE11, as the enemy composition is much more varied in FE12, and not just lances. Like shadow dragon, he still lacks a promotion, but the Binding Shield will give him +2 to all of his stats, acting as a pseudo promotion of sorts. As such, Marth is much better at taking on Medeus than he was last game, and just in general, is a much better unit to have around in FE12, being more effective at pretty much everything. A very good closing game for Marth indeed.

I hope you all enjoyed reading this. I thought about including games like warriors or heroes, but, I simply do not know enough about those games to comment on them. If you guys have anything you think I missed, or would like to add yourselves, then go right ahead. Thank you
