Verdant Wind is the wrong name for Claude’s route

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 07:46 AM PST

The other routes use the colors Azure and Crimson which are shades of the primary colors for Blue Lions and Black Eagles.

For some reason though, Yellow is the main color for Claude yet the route uses Verdant which is used to describe a shade of green. Like come on IS, give us some consistency. Azure for Blue lions and Crimson for the red banner of edelgard's house

I propose instead that we call Claude's Route

In light of Marianne's birthday (at least in some parts of the world now), here's an appreciation thread for her.

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 10:24 AM PST

So many things to like about Marianne, huh?

As a character, she's one of the finest representations of depression in video games I've seen. The symptoms are realistic, she's not exaggerated or downplayed and she replicates the behaviour of IRL depressed people very well. Her suicidal mindset as revealed by her A-support is no joke either, adding on to the sympathy a player would feel for her without coming across as over-the-top or forced. It just slots in.

Her character development is also astoundingly great, almost on par with Dimitri, if not as good. With the support of friends and the prof, she eventually overcomes a weakness that has long plagued her and continues to move forward in life with a defined purpose. Marianne's method of gaining 'protecc sentiment' is unconventional, but works out with the best possible outcome.

She's a kind soul. She loves and cares for animals. She's absolutely beautiful, and only gets better after the timeskip. All her supports, especially those that go to A, are wholesomely top-tier. I think we can safely say that we've found the best Disney Princess to ever exist.

In terms of gameplay, woo-wee. She's a healer, but... Well? She's a healer that can shut enemy casters up and practically call down the artillery with Aura. Blutgang especially complements her role, making her the most ideal combat medic (and Holy Knight) by comparison. She's no Lysithea, but who needs her when you have the power of Sothis and Depression at your side?

As a romance option, there is nothing to criticise. All her paired endings are mutually great, but special shout-outs go to Dimitri and Byleth. Dimitri and Marianne finding comfort in each other's struggles with guilt melts hearts, while Byleth's impact on her life is so great, it gives her the will to propose first in their S-support. Keep in mind, she's the only female to propose first to Byleth. Look how they perfected my girl.

Happy Birthday to best girl Marianne von Edmund!

The writing of Three Houses and avatar praising

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 01:54 PM PST

I just want to put it out there about how I feel in regards to the writing of Three Houses. This game pretty much did a good job overall, especially in world building, lore, and its charming characters. It is a huge improvement from the previous game, not counting Echoes which is a remake, Fodlan actually feels like how a real continent should be, with politics and history both of which are absent from Fates and are greatly missed because politics and lore in Fire Emblem are one of the few things that makes the story interesting and not feel like a cliche anime plot.

However, one thing they keep from Fates and Awakening writing and it really irks me is the constant praising of the avatar/main character. In Three Houses, the three lords cannot open their mouth without praising Byleth, same goes to the other students. Praising one another is nothing wrong, the characters also praise their other friends too in their supports but the ones with Byleth sometimes take three minutes of lines and lines from the characters just praising Byleth and how amazing and a tactical genius they are. Like shut up Edelgard, Byleth can't use Raging Storm how are they worth three minutes conversation of just praises.

I really hope in the next game they will stop the circle of praising and complimenting the avatar character because it adds nothing to the story. It also just directly disregard character development or should I say relationship development because some characters who are supposed to be complicated just say "Professor, around you I feel comfortable so let me tell you my whole secret" without Byleth saying anything to reach that level. I hope next game will just have a main character that is an actual character.

How Distant Counter Really Works (OC)

Thoughts about those special golems in CF's final map...

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 09:44 AM PST

If you didn't notice, the six "altered golems" that appear there have some names: Luca, Iris, Bernhard, Gajus, Chevalier, Wilhelm.

First of all I want to point out a tiny detail, they all have the minor crest of Seiros, somehow Rhea managed to infuse her blood into objects I guess... something not so much surprising considering what Rhea did with her experiment for her mother's vessel, still I assume it's the same process that led to the creation of the saints weapons (the silver ones).

Now it's no surprise to find some random named generals in a FE game, they serve to give us a simple vibe that the enemy army is far more complex than it appears, still golems with their own names it's kinda odd even for that.

Then I remembered that Wilhelm was also the name of the first Emperor, close ally of Seiros, so could it be that Rhea named those golems after close allies she had during the centuries before the game's beginning?

On top of that Chevalier is also the name of one of the crests lost to history... I doubt devs randomly re-used two names for no reason, so I feel there's something going on here.

A question now would be... why Chevalier? Either it was someone allied with Nemesis that killed one of Rhea's sibling or another surviving Nabatean that donated blood... we never got a clear answer about how many Nabateans survived so I think we shouldn't exclude the possibility that a new dragon may suddenly appear in the DLC, on top of that thanks to the item "Fruit of Noa" we know about the existence of Saint Noa... usually in 3Houses saints are also dragons, on top of that Noa is also the name of a crest lost to history, so while not confirmed it definetly push the feeling that there may actually be other Nabateans around.... and so even more mystery and questions around whatever happen with those mysterious crests.

A tiny little bit detail I also want to point out is how there are six named golems and six "lost" crests, now I feel like this thing may easily be a true coincidence but still, considering how the DLC seems to giving us units with a focus on the "missing" crests and this "Abyss", I feel like we should at least keep in mind the names of those golems.

Regarding The Final Cutscene of Crimson Flower

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 02:00 PM PST

I'm of course talking about the whole deal with Byleth's heart being freed from the Crest of Flame's stone.

It's never explicitly stated why or what is happening but I just wanted to throw out my interpretation.

    1) This is just a fun theory that I really don't believe is the case but seeing as the Crest Stones are the hearts of the Nabateans, this seen can be seen to represent heartbreak. More specifically, Sothis' heartbreak. The stone, her heart, fades away after killing, Seros, her daughter almost representing some form of subconscious grief she had in doing so.

Again I don't really believe this to be the case as we never get confirmation of Sothis really fully regaining much more of her memories. And despite the curiosity she shrugs most notions of her past life off in favor of fully supporting Byleth in whatever path they choose. Not to mention she seems relatively fine in the scene afterwards if you S support her. (Although I'm really just chalking this up to similarities between routes)

    2) This is what I really to believe to be the case. Sothis is one with Byleth, making them the progenitor god. For the most part despite being so, we can ascertain Byleth still does not have the degree of power or control over their power that Sothis does, at least during the actual game. However back to the scene where both of them fuse, Sothis tells Byleth to pray for it. That no words are needed. They must merely want it.

In Crimson Flower, Byleth believes in the same cause as Edelgard; a world with no need for gods. I believe Byleth striking down Rhea is a symbolic solidification of their conviction of this, and with this act their will is reaffirmed. Its through this will and yearning for a world with no gods that they themselves undo their own status of godhood with their godhood. Their wish a 'world for humanity' and also to be a part of that world themselves.

EDIT: For clarification, in the context of the route, a "world with no gods" is more accurately a "world that's not ruled by them" as pointed out by another poster.

Are they better looking pre-timeskip or post-timeskip? (Warning: opinions)

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 03:11 PM PST

Title says it all. My simple thoughts on which characters got better looking or uglier through the timeskip. You don't agree? Fight me

Characters that were better looking before the timeskip

Dimitri Sylvain Felix Annette Mercedes Ashe Edelgard Petra Ferdinand Raphael

Characters that were better looking after the timeskip

Ingrid Dedue Caspar Dorothea Linhardt Bernadetta Hubert Hilda Lorenz Ignatz Leonie Lysithia Marianne

    ...and Cyril I guess

You may have noticed that one character in particular is missing: Claude. This is because Claude is perfect in every way possible at every point in time in every route of Three Houses and you will not change my mind no matter what you say.
