    Quick question about FE1 and SSBM

    I haven't finished FE1 yet (mostly due to having trouble keeping my attention span on RPGs in general), but I've always wondered why Marth was given Fountain of Dreams specifically as a home stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee's All-Star Mode.

    Is there a scene in FE1 that stage loosely mirrors?

    I know that's the case with most characters who have home stages that don't match their series. e.g. Young Link has Jungle Japes because of Kokiri Forest. Ganondorf has Brinstar Depths because of his castle. Pichu has Fourside because of Saffron City. Mewtwo has Battlefield because it has a laboratory-like look. Roy has Final Destination because his game hadn't come out yet.

    I apologize that this isn't entirely FE-related, but it is something that only someone who's played through FE1 would have the answer to.

    Who are the best (and worst) fathers in Fire Emblem?

    Happy Father's Day! For those who do not know, the third Sunday of June (today) is celebrated as Father's Day in the United States and some other countries. To celebrate, I decided to pose a simple question to the Subreddit: Who is the best father in the series? Who is the worst? (Note that father doesn't have to mean literal biological father - it could mean any father figure who raises a child.)

    I'll start us off with one answer for both questions. For best father, I won't go with my obvious answer of Finn and instead go with Hector - his dying moments in FE6 where he entrusts Lilina to Roy shows how much he really loved his daughter. For worst father, I'm going to go with Zephiel's father Desmond. Zephiel had a rough upbringing under Desmond that contributed to his mental state later in FE6, which of course included Desmond literally poisoning Zephiel. That's definitely a candidate for worst father.

    After nearly 15 years, I beat FE7 Hector Mode - here's my recap & overall thoughts

    FE7 has aged considerably well; I was hooked from the start with Lyn Hard all the way to Hector Normal. I was going to do HHM; however, I wanted to use a more plethora of units without feeling penalized for doing so, and HHM had lower deployment slots.

    Anyways, I took a bunch of screenshots throughout my playthrough, and made small notes:

    Epilogue: Character Stats

    For Endgame, I just swapped Farina and Rath with Oswin and Louise for their relevance (i.e. Hector forgives Oswin and Louise reveals to Pent about Klein); all my units are foot soldiers so no cavs/fliers . Besides that, I had a lot of fun playing it under the lens of an adult as I saw a lot more depth towards the story and its characters.

    Some thoughts in plot/characters:

    • Interesting tidbit I noticed about Bramimond and Nergal
      • Bramimond is the master of dark magic and was able to bring Ninian back to life. Theoretically by the way the Glimpse of Time Druid spoke about dark magic (and in Pent/Canas support), most people get attached to the power dark magic endows them with, but they get lost in the process
      • The latter happened to Nergal, whose intentions were good at first (to either resurrect Aenir, or open the Gate to reclaim Ninian and Nils) but the power corrupted him over the centuries
      • Here's what gets me: Bramimond was able to resurrect Ninian. Nergal was not able to resurrect Aenir, for reasons described above. It's another tragedy to think about, regarding Nergal's demise
    • Nils crying after Nergal dies pretty much seals about their familial ties
    • Karel reminds me of Harm from Young Justice lol, but I recruited Harken anyways since he's more relevant and it's nice considering if you don't recruit him it's implied Karel killed him along the way to get to the fortress. I would have used him since he's a cool, tragic character but my Raven was pretty RNG blessed and gave Lucius and Priscilla great bonuses
    • Lyn/Hector best FE7 couple by far for me, but Lyn has a lot of good ships (Kent and Rath - kind of elaborated on it in the screenshots I took)
    • I feel quite bad for Ninian. She's still a tragic character by the ending- she either dies shortly after marrying Eliwood or she leaves him forever even if without A support Nergal/Nils both stated she loves him. Nils also gets a repercussion by leaving his sister forever if she chooses to stay with Eliwood to just live like another 10-ish years. Eh, I guess she's already lived a long life since the Scoruing :p
    • The inclusion of Aureola makes sense. I remember ppl back then wondered why it was even in the game, but it is effective against dark magic users (Nergal) so if Athos had only time to recollect one more legendary item, Aureola is the best one to get. Plus, I bet in FE6 90% of people weren't able to use it considering it's nearly impossible to get your staff users to S-rank Light before they do with Staves
    • Dart and Raven's endings
      • Dart takes a grave wound and goes back to Pherae - I headcanon that just like how he takes a grave wound in the past and forgets his identity, the reverse happens and he suddenly remembers his past life as Dan. Makes all the more sense why him and Rebecca don't get a paired ending
      • Raven's paired ending with Lucius however is weird considering that it's not stated for Lucius to start an orphanage that Lugh/Ray/Chad eventually live in during FE6. In Raven's single ending, he lives in Araphen, where Lucius starts the orphanage in, to possibly keep tabs on him. However, nothing is stated on his revenge plans for Ostia. I headcanon that the paired Lucius ending is still the canon ending and that their single endings occur after their time as mercenaries. It's quite similar to Nino's single ending vs. her paired endings with Jaffar/Erk.
    • Hector x Lyn
      • Despite a lot of the game hint at their banter/relationship similar to Eliwood/Ninian it also makes sense for Lyn to abdicate her throne to Ostia. She does this in all her endings. With Hector as her husband, well it just makes more sense too.
      • Lyn's paired endings where she settles in the plains are with Rath and Kent; which are fine pairs for her but Hector's other two pairings are very lacklustre :\ What's meh for me is that the game just pushed their narrative a lot but their ending seems quite undeveloped. At least in Eli/Nini you're told Ninian is not expected to live long and thus she's not in FE6 (and Eliwood getting sick can be related to her death) and Rebecca becomes Roy's canon milk mom with Wolt. For Lyn, its quite unknown (also because she wasn't created in FE6) and Sue's inclusion in FE6 who is strikingly similar in appearance to Lyn has more points against Hector x Lyn. I'd like to see Hector x Lyn ending to be more developed by a remake since it was quite unsatisfactory imo when compared to the main game
    • Hector and Eliwood age CONSIDERABLY in 5 years from the final epilogue?! Roy and Lilina are 10, they're 15 in FE6... Hector looking like that in FE6 in 5 years' time is kinda crazy. Eliwood got sick, so it can make sense.

    Some thoughts in gameplay:

    • I really turned the game into flier emblem - the 3 peg sisters utility is god-tier and throw in Heath you basically have a squad that can get to virtually anywhere in a matter of 2-3 turns barring Warp. Bows are kinda trash too esp. on Heath; those need to get buffed considerably
    • Despite Bows generally being trash, I daresay that I've had the most mileage out of using Rath. His movement is insane and 2-3 range makes his reach even better. Great growths and great utility, he's just amazing all around except for a middling and underleveled join time. It's pretty easy to train him up to speed along with Heath - it's not like we're talking about Nino or Sophia! Not to mention, Nomadic Trooper caps Speed at 30 along with Lyn + the other Swordmasters?! It far outclasses Sniper. Also love the Nomadic Trooper animation - he's probably my favourite unit in the playthrough
    • TLDR best units in the game are Rath + the 4 fliers (excluding Vaida)
    • Why oh why is the Sol Katti so heavy? It defeats the purpose in using Lyn. The +5 Res is kinda whack too... if anything give the +5 to Speed like how it matches +5 Str for Eli and +5Def for Hector. It's literally 2 less weight than Durandal, which is a massive two-handed buster sword?! Not to mention, it's the Mani Katti's "sister sword" but for some reason weighs 11 more - the Sol Katti definitely needs a revamp if this game were to be remade
    • Serra got RNG blessed, she had like 9 Def by lvl 17 Cleric and great Mag/Skl/Spd but alas I still dumped her when I promoted Canas and Lucius :p
    • As for my 20/20 characters... Hector got very RNG blessed esp. with Speed. I tried to compensate for Lyn by dumping her a lot of my stat boosters by Endgame in order to hit those nice green numbers. Farina capped everything pretty easily with the help of Afa's Drops, she's insane. Pent got lucky too, especially Skill which is unfortunately quite useless to be that high lol. Eliwood's the most meh 20/20 character I have, but he does have horse utility
    • Speaking of Eliwood, Paladins fall off in the later half of the game, when your fliers become a lot stronger and more capable. Their stats don't warrant too much either over the other units you have
    • Karla earns the title of worst playable unit in the game. Sucks considering her design… just like Sophia. It'd be nice, being the fabled "Sword Princess" that Dart even mentions to Karel she's as good as the legend- possibly FE6 Karel stats and growths since she does join like 2 chapters before Endgame omg
