Fire Emblem units who don't reflect their character

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 12:45 PM PDT

    Hi!

I find there are some units who in gameplay are very out of character in Fire Emblem.

For me the most notable are:

    - Meg: her father describes her as being able to lift a cow when she wasn't even an adult. Her class makes sense but...why is her strength so low? How can she lift a cow if she can't even swing a steel sword without a speed penalty? And why does a farmer girl use a sword as her primary weapon? Forks and axes are farming tools and forks function like lances. Also, swords are the most pricey weapon in any medieval setting, how is a farming family able to afford a sword? Especially at the beginning of a rebellion? If anything, Meg should have been a soldier or female fighter, or a lance/axe knight if her dad had stopped fighting and given her his old armor. Nothing about her character reflects in her gameplay.

    - Beruka: an assassin is supposed to kill its targets without getting spotted. For this, it needs to kill it instantly and in silence, without anything flashy. How is Beruka, a wyvern rider with very low offensive stats and growths (except lolskill that's only useful to hit with an axe, which by the way is not exactly a weapon fit for discretion) and high defenses supposed to be an assassin? That's literally the opposite of what she's supposed to be. She could be an outlaw, a mercenary, a ninja, an archer...but how is a wyvern supposed to assassinate if everyone sees her coming from afar? How can she kill if she doesn't ORKO? How is she supposed to kill silently with an axe that breaks bones and crushes skulls? That's an executionner's weapon, not a silent killer's weapon.

    - Rinkah: all her dialogues show she's grown as a strength-relying girl. Her artwork shows how strong her body looks. She's all muscles. Yet why is her personal strength growth 25% ? Why is her personal base around 1 at level 4 although she's been training all her life? She should have Effie or Kagero's strength, but she's got Setsuna's stength instead. Actually, Setsuna's growth (Setsuna has like 3-4 more personal base than Rinkah). Both can go ninja, and as a ninja Setsuna deals more damage than Rinkah, especially if she picked up quick draw on the way.

    - Hana: she wants to defend her friend, yet she picked one of the most paper-thin classes and has very bad personal tank stats and growths. Why would you pick samurai/swordmaster (her cannon class if we go by personal outfits) if you wanted to protect someone? A katana is one of the most useless weapons for defense, it's made only for offense without any consideration for defense. Samurai armor (lamellar armor) was also not known to be the best pick to absorb hits. If Hana really wanted to defend Sakura, why didn't she pick up spear fighter? A samurai knows how to fight with a naginata, a katana and a bow. Women were taught how to fight with naginatas in order to be able to defend against stronger and more trained men because the naginata can thrust and slash with a good reach. A weapon with a long stick as its base is always useful for defense because you can deflect or redirect attacks with the stick as well as switch between defensive and offensive stances in one movement without breaking your momentum. If Hana wanted to defend Sakura this bad (like all of her supports show), she'd have chosen any class but samurai.

Fire Emblem Heroes shows me that Fire Emblem doesnt need to be just medieval stuff

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 06:49 AM PDT

After looking at the Book 3-5 designs and stuff, I really would like for those kinds of designs and stuff to be in an actual Switch game.

Obviously story stuff is a different story, but just design and aesthetic it would make it really stand out compared to others.

Edit:I mostly just want to see how Fire Emblem will expand with the Fire Emblem heroes and 3 houses money they raked in and the studio upgrade they got so I guess I kinda have high hopes for the next game to be cool

Why did Gotoh make Aura and Excalibur?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 06:14 PM PDT

this thought just occurred to me. As far as i'm aware, there's no reason for Gotoh to make Aura and Excalibur. Mankind already has the three regalia + hautuclere which have supposedly been around for a while. And then there's Falchion to deal with any dragon bullshit that may or may not happen. So why did he make them?

Is "Together we Ride" the actual name

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 05:12 PM PDT

Asking for a video I'm making, the song Story 5 meeting from Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon has frequently been called "Together We Ride" and I'm curious if that is what the song is legitimately called that or was it just a cool name given to the song by smash fans? Please let me know if you know
