/r/FireEmblem Plan for the 9/23 Direct

    Posted: 22 Sep 2021 09:08 AM PDT

    Hello Everyone!

As many of you are aware, there is a Nintendo Direct tomorrow at 3 pm pst/6pm est!Its been about 3 months since the last direct, and even longer since we received some Fire Emblem news We don't know anything about what will be shown aside from the general rumor mill leaks that happen with all directs. As always, there is the potential for there to be some big news Fire Emblem related in the form of a new game, a remaster, Warriors 2, or something else entirely.

Now as usual with directs that the mod team thinks there could be big FE news, we will be restricting submissions for the duration of the direct. This means there will be No NEW POSTS while the direct is airing. If Fire Emblem related news is revealed, then one of the mods will post the info on the sub. Shortly after the direct, the sub will be re-opened. We will have a live reaction thread for people who want to comment their reactions and as always, the sub's discord has a special channel for discussions about directs/E3.

Hopefully something will be announced, and if not thats okay. (And before people ask, no we will not turn the Subreddit into a Kirby sub or any other theme if there is no FE news announced at this direct)

Hope you all have a fantastic day!

    Pre-September 2021 Direct Corrupt a Wish Thread!

    Posted: 22 Sep 2021 11:55 AM PDT

    Title

Previous Pre-Direct Corrupt a Wish Thread

Well last time didn't work out so well, so hopefully this time will? Either way, lets have some fun and make some wishes, while corrupting other people's wishes at the same time!

    How it works:

Person A comments a wish, then others corrupt it in some way. For example:

Person A: I wish for a Fire Emblem Spinoff game!

Person B: Granted, Fire Emblem X-tream beach volley ball, the cast is all girls save for a player insert character that can be either a guy or girl, with extreme boob and butt jiggle physics with modes that actually let your player character get physical with the girls using the same system that the Senran Kagura game for switch uses, and yes this includes women like Deirdre, Ethlyn, Caeda, Celica, and others with canon spouses.

    Now, there are rules:

    1. Mark your spoilers (Especially for really big twists)

    2. No excessive rudeness (Do I even need to say it?)

    3. No excessive lewdness (These are supposed to be funny and cursed, not the premise of a smut fic)

    4. Remember that you signed up for this, so don't get mad when someone corrupts your wish in a way you don't want.

    5. No circumventing the cursed aspect, the genie / monkey's paw doesn't take kindly to people who lawyer away their fun.

    6. HAVE FUN!

and may the direct be ever in your favor!

Oh, and try and keep it tangentially FE related.

The Theoretical Fates Meme Run Where (Almost) Everyone Gets Replicate

    Posted: 22 Sep 2021 05:20 AM PDT

In my last post, I talked about how you can break Birthright by early promoting and funneling a lot of units through the Mechanist class for Replicate. This time, I'll try to take things even further by answering the question no one asked: just how many units can you give Replicate (without abusing online features)? My last Birthright run ended up with 10, but I know it's possible to do a lot better.

First, let's figure out who can reclass into Mechanist without any support investment. Two classes can promote into Mechanist - Ninja and Apothecary. I'll be using (1) to denote a unit's primary class and (2) to denote their secondary class, which generally isn't passed down through A+/S ranks unless the partner shares the primary class.

Ninja has: Corrin, Kaze (1), Rinkah (2), Saizo (1), Setsuna (2), Kagero (1), Reina (2), and Shura (2)

Apothecary has: Orochi (2), Azama (2), Oboro (2), Izana (2), Yukimura (1), and Anna (2)

Next, we'll see who can inherit one of these classes through an A+ support. I'm looking through these before S ranks because A+ supports are one-way; Saizo can be the "donor" of the Ninja class to two units in addition to being able to marry someone. The A+ supports that we're interested in are:

    Kaze -> Silas

    Saizo -> Ryoma

    Saizo -> Subaki

    Kaden -> Hayato

It seems like the support writing team and the class assigning team weren't on the same page because Kaden's secondary class, Diviner, is Hayato's default class and Hayato can't become a Kitsune, so he's given Apothecary, a class that Kaden doesn't have access to by default. We'll be taking full advantage of this quirk soon.

Unfortunately, Kagero doesn't support with anyone that doesn't already have access to one of the two classes.

Next, we'll be looking at who can pass down their two secondary classes through marriage. This is only possible if both partners have the same primary class. The only instances of this that provide the desired outcome are:

Azama -> Sakura (Share Monk/Shrine Maiden)

    Setsuna -> Takumi

This leaves 9 of our Gen 1 units locked out of Mechanist before marriage.

Male (1-3): Hinata, Jakob, and Kaden

Female (1-6): Felicia, Hinoka, Mozu, Hana, Azura, Scarlet

Unfortunately, there are only four units left that have one of these two as their primary classes through marriage:

    Corrin

    Males: Kaze, Saizo

    Females: Kagero

Now, it's time to choose the pairings that will maximize Replicate inheritance. These are:

    Azama + Sakura = Mitama

    Setsuna + Takumi = Kiragi

    Saizo + F1 = Midori

    Kaze + F2 = Asugi

    Silas + [F3] = Sophie

    Ryoma + [F4] = Shiro

    Hayato + [F5] = Rhajat

    Subaki + [F6] = Caledori

    Kagero + M1 = M1.5

    Orochi + [M2] = M2.5

    Oboro + [M3] = M3.5

    Rinkah + [M4] = M4.5

    Reina

    Shura

    Yukimura

    Izana

    Anna

    Corrin + Any = Kana

The placeholder M/Fs represent the Gen 1 units locked out of Mechanist and their respective children. Names in brackets will never be able to get Replicate. There are 6 female units trying to fill the 6 slots with the Gen 1 male units, but one of them is Scarlet, a Corrinsexual who can't pair with any of those six units. There are also only 3 male units trying to fill the 4 slots, so we can resolve these issues by pairing one of {Silas, Ryoma, Hayato, Subaki} with one of {Orochi, Oboro, Rinkah} and giving Scarlet to a Male Corrin. Arbitrarily filling in these gaps, we get:

    Azama + Sakura = Mitama

    Setsuna + Takumi = Kiragi

    Saizo + Felicia = Midori

    Kaze + Hinoka = Asugi

    Silas + [Mozu] = Sophie

    Ryoma + [Hana] = Shiro

Hayato + [Azura] = Rhajat, Shigure

    Kagero + Hinata = Hisame

    Orochi + [Jakob] = Dwyer

    Oboro + [Kaden] = Selkie

    Subaki + Rinkah = Caledori

    Reina

    Shura

    Yukimura

    Izana

    Anna

    Corrin + Scarlet = Kana

Alternatively, we can let Corrin pair with any of the male characters that won't get access to Mechanist (Jakob is the obvious choice) instead of Scarlet to get a similar result, just with Scarlet not getting Replicate and a different Gen 1 girl being sad and alone for the rest of her life. Corrin can't pair with any other female character since it leaves a male Gen 1 unit alone and unable to have children, which reduces the number of units with Replicate by 1.

So we've got our answer: 37 out of the 42 units in a given Birthright playthrough can simultaneously possess Replicate.

Unfortunately, when it comes to using them, you're still limited by the last three chapters' deployment limit of 16. There's also an even stricter limitation than this in the form of a hard limit on the number of units that can replicate at once - only 10. It seems like the dream of bringing an army larger than Priam's to take down Garon won't be happening.

    Death Blow Maddening Prepromotes

    Posted: 22 Sep 2021 01:58 PM PDT

Death blow is generally agreed as a skill to get for all physical students in maddening. What about for the church units, like seteth? Is it worth getting it for them since they join late and have access to better classes?

If Binding Blade or Path of Radiance is announced for a Remake what changes do you expect to see in them?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2021 07:53 PM PDT

    Title essentially.

FE6 and FE 9 are good candidates for remakes due to the popularity of their lords, so I suspect that if we are getting another remake between new games then it'll be one of those two.

(I suppose it could also be Genealogy but that's a bit more of an unknown in the West although with Heroes anything is possible.)

But do you expecting new classes? Branching promotions? New characters? Could there be new characters? Would you want new characters?

I'm curious on where the community sits on this.

A better recruitment order for Revelation

    Posted: 22 Sep 2021 08:53 AM PDT

Alongside Revelation's... other problems, one thing about it that always annoyed me was the order you recruit all your allies. It's supposed to be a path with both Hosidan and Nohrian units, but in practice it feels like the first half of Birthright with a load of underleveled Conquest units thrown at you as an afterthought.

I thought about trying to redo the beginning of Rev to make it so you briefly visit Nohr, but when you consider the existence of the Awakening kids who (supposedly, even if they don't act like it...) know of the existence of Anankos and Valla, it's possible to have a mix of Nohrian and Hoshidian units join your army before you even set foot in Nohr! Here's my ideal join time (and join level) for each chapter. I've buffed a lot of character joining levels for balance purposes, although to avoid nerfs I've not lowered any, even ones that probably should be lowered like Shura. Where possible I've tried to preserve differences in levels between characters, which is why for example Arthur shows up one level higher than Effie.

    Prologue - Chapter 6 - Corrin Lvl ?, Azura Lvl ?, Servant Lvl ?

Chapter 7 - Odin Lvl 5, Selena Lvl 6, Laslow Lvl 7, Gunter Lvl 5

    Prologue 1 - Mozu Lvl 1

    Chapter 8 - Kaze Lvl ? + 2, Sakura Lvl ? + 2, Hana Lvl 7, Subaki Lvl 8

    Chapter 9 - Rinkah Lvl ? + 4, Hayato Lvl 9

Chapter 10 - Takumi Lvl 11, Oboro Lvl 10, Hinata Lvl 10, Elise Lvl 8, Arthur Lvl 10, Effie Lvl 9

Chapter 11 - Saizo Lvl 11, Orochi Lvl 10, Reina Lvl 1, Kagero Lvl 10

    Chapter 12 - Camilla Lvl 1, Beruka Lvl 12, Flora Lvl 1

    Chapter 13 - Kaden Lvl 14, Keaton Lvl 15, Nyx Lvl 13

    Chapter 14 - Benny Lvl 16, Charlotte Lvl 14, Silas Lvl 18

Chapter 15 - Azama Lvl 15, Setsuna Lvl 13, Niles Lvl 14, Shura Lvl 10, Hinoka Lvl 17, Leo Lvl 2

    Chapter 16 - Ryoma Lvl 4, Scarlet Lvl 3

    Chapter 17 - Xander Lvl 4, Peri Lvl 18

My Castle - Other Servant,Yukimura, Izana, Fuga

Some of these justitications are a bit more flimsy than others, but it's not like Revelation is a masterpiece of storytelling anyway. I've gone through each of them in order of join time:

Odin, Selena, Laslow: Corrin deciding to side with nobody and bail messes with the Awakening kids's plans - if they joined Nohr they could protect them, and if they joined Hoshido they could try to take them back, but Corrin running away leaves their fate unknown. Sneaking away from their respective retainers, the three of them follow Corrin to the Bottomless Canyon. Either the first or the second shadowy room you reveal will contain all three retainers, who explain themselves once the chapter's over. Corrin and Azura decide to trust them, although Gunter (who is at this point influenced by Anankos) tries their best to disuade Corrin.

Chapter 8: This plays out similarly to before, except Corrin & co. are found by Hoshidan forces shortly after exiting Valla via the lake in Hoshido. The sudden hostiltiy of the Hoshidan forces makes a little more sense considering the large number of Nohrian recruits you have.

Elise, Arthur, Effie: In the main story (either after chapter 7 or 8?) there's a scene where Elise overhears Garon being very obviously evil and insane. When Leo comes to dispose of Zola as punishment for his shitty snow shovelling chapter, it turns out Elise and her retainers went with him, although she only chooses to reveal herself after Leo leaves the scene. Elise says she's worried about you and about Nohr, so decides she's tagging along with you along with her retainers.

Flora: Flora joining after you face her here allows Yukimura to take her place as a my castle recruit if you want a Rev where you can recruit literally everyone.

Nyx: I don't think Nyx even has a valid reason for joining in Conquest, let alone Rev. You could stick her pretty much anywhere so long as it's not in Hoshidan territory... So why not here in Chapter 13? She's an adult, maybe she appreciates the opera.

Chapter 15: Things are in turmoil in both countries right now. Leo is starting to question Garon's sanity, and both he and Hinoka are worried about their missing sibilings. By coincidence, the two of them both show up in Notre Sagesse at the same time to seek the Rainbow Sage's power and wisdom. The two of them both join you at the end of the chapter, but their retainers join earlier, seeking you out since they're worried about their respective lords.

...and that's it! I think I made a topic like this years ago, but it's hard to remember. This attempt feels a little better fleshed out anyway. What do you think? Could any Nohrian characters potentially join even earlier? Do all of these ideas at least make some sense?

Also how do you feel about things balance wise? I don't think a "balanced" Revelation is really feasible, but there are some things I'm not too happy about, like OP Shura showing up at the same time as two other bow units. The class distribution also feels a bit wonky, but fixing all that might get into "rewriting the entire first half" territory.

[Review] Finished Fire Emblem Three Houses, a game made with a lot of care and passion but has some big flaws

    Posted: 22 Sep 2021 07:19 PM PDT

    Fire Emblem Three Houses review

I invested nearly 170 hours for the three routes (don't care for Silver Snow or the DLC) and I got to say, this is one conflicting game, on one hand what it did great, it did nearly perfect, but the game feels unfinished and has many problems.

This is the longest JRPG I have ever played and loved my time in it.

    Lore

Basically an Alien came down to Earth, made children from herself and they shared the knowledge with the people living there, said people use that wisdom to create weapons/magic and hunt down the aliens, obviously the people got nearly murdered and the few survivors went underground and planned their revenge. Due to this the goddess fell asleep after fixing the damage she did to the Earth.

The survivors managed to reel in a Bandit Leader into sneaking in and stealing the Goddess from the place she was sleeping in, killed her, drank her blood (producing the Crest of Flames) and used her... bones to create a Sword, using that weapon he hunted down the Goddess Children and used their bodies to create more weapons.

Seiros was one of the few or only survivor and went across Foldan looking for allies (the Kingdom and the Adrestian Empire) and eventually met up with Nemesis on battle defeating him, recovering her Mother... bones... and her focus was trying to revive her somehow. She created a religion where... she was a Saint (quite arrogant to be honest) and her way of viewing things should become a religion (did I mention how arrogant this is?).

Its quite a fascinating lore, I'm glad I experienced Claude's route at the last, especially the Paralogues were great, Claude's, Lindhart/Leonie and Marianne ones in particular were amazing and explained a lot on the story and Lindhart/Leonie had my favorite battle in the entire game, frustrating, hard, stupid OP reinforcements and one big bastard as a Boss who was extremely tanky, but the map was beautiful, the music amazing and I got a great weapon as a reward. I didn't understand why we didn't get more maps like these, but oh well.

In JRPGs one of the things I love to learn more about, its the Lore of the world the people are living there, Three Houses has a great one and I hope the sequel gets to be in the same World, given we only saw a small piece of the world.

    Characters

Going to give an overview of the characters in term of personality and gameplay

    Blue Lions (Hard/Classic)

This route is more character oriented, the students are more involved in the plot than in other routes and you easily get more attached to them than the other Houses students.

    Dimitri:

    • Personality: I feel so sorry for him, on his route Byleth was his anchor, his everything and managed to rescue him from that pit he was in, everyone helped him and finally recovered his focus (Rodrigue...) and became the Dimitri we knew, the ending was wholesome for his route. On the other ones it was quite sad, CF the church used him to escape with their tails between their legs and on VW/SS he got killed by random soldiers.
    • Gameplay: I just went Cavalier->Paladin->Lord Class. He was always solid, 1HKO everything, but since this mode didn't feel too challenging I didn't noticed him enough.

    Dedue:

    • Personality: I like him a lot, racially abused he thinks a lot about others before himself, leading him to push others away from him to avoid being associated with a King Slayer race. He had some funny moments with Byleth and Shamir. In VW he was great, lent his strength when we needed him the most.
    • Gameplay: Brigand->Warrior->War Master. His early was very strong but once he came back he felt too behind the others and was just ok, he could still 1HKO things but without Canto I had to take extra care.

    Felix:

    • Personality: Another person that was scared by war (common trope for the students in this house), the death of his brother being seen as "noble" put him in a path where he wants to be strong enough to protect others, but also mentally as well, he wants to avoid becoming like Dimitri, someone fueled by revenge. His supports were very sweet, I liked Lysithea, Petra, Shamir, Ingrid and Sylvain especially with him, added a lot to his character. I really don't see him siding with Dimitri, but he follows the strong and that is Byleth.
    • Gameplay: Thief -> Swordmaster/Assassin -> Mortal Savant. His end class was a bit bad, hybrid classes are not that good (magic swords existing), he was broken early and midgame but his late game was not on par, he was able to dodge a lot of attacks but I would've preferred to focus more on Swords than in Reason. In other routes I tried Bow Knight and Grappler, the later one was very strong for me but he looks kind of ridiculous in that outfit and its why I prefer him as an Assassin.

    Sylvain:

    • Personality: On the surface he seems like a lady lover, but he actually is a misogynist, the way women are using him due to his Crest, he's also using them to hurt them emotionally. He was scared since a child due to how his brother was threated. My favorite supports were with Mercedes where he let himself cry and with F!Byleth, the later one feels like a solid pairing in other routes due to him betraying his friends, family, lord, for love (at first he wanted that booty). He hates Crest and his presence in other routes is justified.
    • Gameplay: Cavalier -> Paladin -> Dark Knight. Same issue as Felix, I hated the Dark Knight for him, lost my time training reason. Focused him in Paladin in other roures purely with Swift Strikes and he was a loooooooooooooot better. My focus with him was to be a mix between physical tank and able to 1HKO things and it worked perfectly. I also trained Faith to get Renewal making him even better.

    Ingrid:

    • Personality: I paired Byleth with her even though she seems a lot better for Dimitri, she wants to be a Knight even though her job is to marry someone from the nobility and have crest babies... Her supports were mostly related to that, she had some funny ones like with Bernie. In CF I had Felix kill her and that conversation was deep "You betrayed your family, your land, your friends, everyone! And for what?", she also had some interesting ones with Sylvain. She belongs 100% in the Kingdom, her presence in other routes don't make too much sense in terms of her personality and she sounds sad in CF, while in VW she hesitates on her actions but goes forward.
    • Gameplay: Pegasus Knight -> Falcon Knight. Absolutely broken, she can dodge physical attacks with her insane speed and tank magic attacks with her insane RES. She was the GOAT of my BL run.

    Ashe:

    • Personality: I don't understand how he can side with the church given what they did to Lonato. He's a bookworm and a bit bland...
    • Gameplay: Archer -> Sniper. Bad early and midgame with a very strong late game, he was able to crit nearly all the time at the end, glad I sticked with him.

    Mercedes:

    • Personality: I love her VA. She's a very deep character, has quite the tragic past, especially when you find out why Emile killed her horrible father (he was going to take her as Spouse!!!! Sick fucking bastard). She's devoted to the church to help others but she also loves her brother, their relationship in CF was very sweet and she's an emotional anchor for a lot of characters. In CF when she learns the truth about the church and the presence of her brother and teacher, she's justified to be there, while in VW not so much.
    • Gameplay: Priest->Bishop. Her passive is bonkers, being able to tank at least one hit with Nosferatu plus her passive is quite good. Her job is to heal and she does this grearly.

    Annie:

    • Personality: Sweet and bland.
    • Gameplay: Mage -> Warlock -> Gremory. She's ok, she was able to 1HKO tanks and chipped in some damage here and there. I read she's a monster as a Wyvern Lord with Bolt Axe, in a few years I will give this a try.

    Crimson Flower (Maddening/Casual)

This route we find out why Edelgard went Mother of Dragons kind of crazy. She was used, tortured, had her family killed and then she had to ally herself with the real bad guys to have enough power to fight Rhea, who's so arrogant that she has everyone worshiping her and uses her own teachings to form a religion, where that ultimately is fucking up Fodlan with all the nobles vs commoners issue.

This route also has a lot of problems, first its obviously unfinished, the developers seems to lack the time to properly conclude this, but this would've been a repeat of VW/SS final fight so in a sense... its ok how it finished but it would've been great to have some short of confrontation with Arundel/Thales.

Gameplay wise I was surprised by Maddening... I had to learn to use the Gambits for Crowd Control and to tank things with Impenetrable Wall, then stuff like Retribution and Stride were essential for me.

Fuck those stupid reinforcements! They often landed right on top of me.

    Edelgard:

    • Personality: She's ruthless, decisive and confident. There was no other way for her, the Kingdom has enemies inside (Cornelia) with Dimitri being an unstable ally. The Alliance is a mess with Claude being very shady with his background. While the Empire has some problems its the most unified place and she had to use that power to unite everyone and pursue the corrupt creating a new future. It was the fastest path given she was dying due to how she was tortured to add the Crest of Flames.
    • Gameplay: Brigand->Pegasus Knight-> Wyvern Rider->Wyvern Lord. Her exclusive class is really bad, but I guess they had do try to lure the players in a bad class to avoid overpowering every map with her. She's by far the strongest character in the game, even above F!Byleth, being able to act immediately after every Raging Storm is broken, like... I destroyed Rhea on MADDENING in one turn using Edelgard...

    Hubert:

    • Personality: Very loyal towards Edelgard and had some great support conversations with Petra and Bernie. But he became an MVP in VW/SS by planning to fuck up TWSITD.
    • Gameplay: He was not that good, benched in mid to late game.

    Ferdinand:

    • Personality: I don't understand why he would follow Edelgard after what she did to his family... That was cruel and in other routes we find out with Lysithea how his Father ended up dying to how poorly he threated everyone, then Arundel came and made things even worse. He was quite arrogant in a good way and the story writers really fucked him up.
    • Gameplay: Brigand->Wyvern Rider-> Wyvern Lord. I gave him Lances for Swift Strikes and then went Wyvern Lord took too long honestly... Should've sticked to Paladin like Sylvain because I wasted time training Axes and Flying. He was ok, he was used mostly as an Enemy Phase unit thanks to his great passive. He could've also made for a fantastic dancer with Sword Avoid +20 and his passive. He's a weird character, if you go Paladin your forsake speed and your passive is useless but you also get Swift Strikes, but if you go Wyvern Lord you waste time with Axes when his best asset is Swift Strikes.

    Petra:

    • Personality: I like her a lot, personality wise she's a freaking boss! She's hostage for the empire and her sole focus is to become someone strong enough to be a great leader for Brigid. I paired her with Claude in VW and they matched great. One of my favorites in the game, a real badass.
    • Gameplay: Thief -> Assassin. She's the most broken character after Edelgard, Lysithea and F!Byleth, her speed is insane, she bossed multiple enemies in choke points, with Retribution she was destroying everything with her crits as well. I should've given her the Dancer class for Sword Avoid +20, but even without it she was dodging like crazy in maddening. Facing her in BL was a nightmare, she was dodging everything.

    Bernie:

    • Personality: I really really love her! Her VA killed it! She had some of the best support conversation and moments in the game, especially on her Paralogue accusing Byleth of terrorism for suggesting to take her to Petra's home xD. One of my faves.
    • Gameplay: Archer -> Sniper -> Bow Knight. She's very strong as a Bow User, and while Vengeance is even more broken, with Brave Bow existing, she didn't need more to 1HKO things while being in a safe place away from harm. Consistently strong in all parts of the game.

    Dorothea:

    • Personality: Disappointed, I really like her design, but her whole goal being to marry made her look like a... Well that... Her VA was extraordinary as well, I do like her, but damn girl, have some goals in life... Her childhood was very sad.
    • Gameplay: Dancer with S in Reason. Yeah yeah I was a noob here... With Meteor she would've been a broken Gremory, I could've used another character as a Dancer... Meteor being extremely broken I couldn't abuse it how I wanted.

    Lindhart:

    • Personality: Had a great support with Marianne, Edelgard, Bernie and Lysithea, who he ended up saving alongside Edelgard. He had a funny moment with Leonie when hunting her weapon.
    • Gameplay: The best Bishop in the game, why? Warp. Can heal as good as a Mercedes but having warp opens up a lot of new strategies.

    Caspar:

    • Personality: One dimensional character most of the time. He was great in Verdant Wind giving more insight of his Father who's a BOSS.
    • Gameplay: Brigand -> Grappler -> War Master. Basically Ashe, weak early and mid game with broken late game, whatever he touched died but the same could be said with him, I had him near Lindhart as a bodyguard and to also use Warp to send him to war when it was safe to 1HKO someone who was problematic to kill.

    Verdant Wind (Maddening/Casual)

The final route for me, I decided to recruit all the characters but used almost all of the GD students.

Easily the best route, had a lot of lore, great battles, the most interesting students, a great Leader, lots of great moments and its obvious this was the first route they made.

    Claude:

    • Personality: I expected a lot more from him, had some great moments like the Einbarr infiltration scheme and that last fight against the final boss of the game was quite epic! His goal to basically end racism is very hard to do but he wanted to try, at the very least destroying Foldlan's Throat is a great first step for this. His moments with Nader and Judith were very good as well, I wanted more of this. I paired him with Petra and they worked great. I felt the writers should've taken notes from Path of Radiance about the racism subject, it felt too shallow here
    • Gameplay: Archer -> Sniper -> Wyvern Rider -> Barbarossa. He's very OP with Ashes and Dust plus his ultimate, with a Brave Bow+ he was killing anything, could tank a few hits and had the mobility to be go inside and out with Canto.

    Hilda:

    • Personality: She's quite hilarious! Always finding someone else to do her job but that also makes her a good strategist. She's very sweet and mischievous, sad we couldn't meet her Brother who ends up acknowledging her prowess in the battlefield by giving her a lot of responsibilities which she hates.
    • Gameplay: Brigand -> Archer -> Pegasus Knight -> Wyvern Rider -> Wyvern Lord. She was OP! Tomahawk+, Brave Axe+, you name it, she destroyed everything and was able to frequently dodge when needed, her ultimate weapon and skill was bonkers.

    Lorenz:

    • Personality: One of the best characters in the game! He started as an annoying fucker, but damn he turned out as such a solid character both in VW and on the support conversations, its crazy how well he matured. In VW he became Claude's right hand constantly making sure everything worked and always caring for everyone, loved how hard he questioned Claude in the school days (given how shady the future leader of the alliance looked like) and how he ended up respecting him and Claude really trusting him, its something I wanted from Dimitri and Sylvain. His conversation with Marianne was the sweetest, telling her she's beautiful and having those deep conversations made them my favorite pairing in the game by far alongside Bernie and Hubert. I can't forget the faces they made in school on their second Support Conversation with him just standing there watching depressed emo Marianne and both watching each other back and forth, that was very funny since he was finding her fascinating and she was like "why the fuck are you staring at me?".
    • Gameplay: Mage -> Dark Mage -> Dark Bishop -> Dark Knight. Carried me hard early and mid game, late game he wasn't able to 1HKO things anymore but with Poison Strike and his crazy high accuracy he was easily hitting things, plus he was able to tank a lot of hits from both mages and physical attacks. One of my favorite units.

    Lysithea:

    • Personality: Had a nearly identical experience as Edelgard, House Ordelia got invaded because they plotted against the Emperor and the Mages of those who Slither in the Dark made experiments with her siblings in order to produce two Crests, all of them died except her then they left and told her she would die young as consequence. She rush everything that she does, often leading to falling down due to her being tired. Hates being threated as a child leading to some funny support conversations especially from Claude. She has a lot of knowledge and is a reliable ally, loves sweets. When paired with Lindhart he finds a cure for her problem removing a Crest from her blood years after the war. Has some very interesting conversations with Edelgard and Hanneman. I also liked her ending with Felix where he gives up the thing he loves the most to spend the remaining time she has left together.
    • Gameplay: Mage -> Warlock -> Gremory. One of the broken units of the game, when equipped with Thyrsus she gets insane range with high accuracy leading to 1HKO from long range, but she needs to play safe since anything can kill her. Having warp leads to some amazing plays.

    Leonie:

    • Personality: She's meme'd a lot for having a huge boner for Jeralt, but he serves as inspiration for her, wanting to become a mercenary because of him, wanting to protect Byleth. She's similar to Petra, both loves nature and to do things themselves, she sets traps as seen with Felix so it isn't always a fair 1 vs 1 with her, she truly has a mercenary mentality. She doesn't make sense to be recruited in CF because they were the ones that killed Jeralt, but in other routes it makes sense to follow Byleth.
    • Gameplay: Archer -> Brigand -> Sniper -> Bow Knight. The strongest BK in the game, having access to Point Blank Volley means she can 1HKO most things and run away with Canto (if it's too dangerous you can combine with warp), she can easily access Movement +1 so that helps a lot for her output. Her STR is very high as well and has a lot of synergy with Sylvain due to both Personal Abilities combining so well.

    Ignatz:

    • Personality: A sweet kid, but not on the same level of Ashe in terms of bland, he has a lot going on for himself, even though he cares only for Art it leads to some great support conversations because something he sees as a hobby, others make him pursue his dream and ending up with Hilda made it even better since both hobbies were in sync.
    • Gameplay: Archer -> Sniper -> Bow Knight. He was a very important character for me, being a Stride bot, a Rally bot, a debuff bot and his insane passive (hit+40 combining PA with Archer mastery) letting me deal with those pesky assassins, means he was always doing something for the team. I gave him Poison Strike to make it even better.

    Marianne:

    • Personality: My favorite girl! She started as a timid girl but after a lot of support conversations you could see how great she was growing overcoming the fear of her Crest where you find out exactly the reason she was fearing it and it caused a heavy trauma for her, becoming a beast eventually wasn't a nice thought, but she finally let go of her problems and blossomed greatly!
    • Gameplay: Easily the best dancer in the game (she looks AMAZING!). Access to Psychic, Soul Blade melting anything thanks to her insane RES, striking twice anytime she wanted with Levin Sword+. I think Ferdinand could also be a very solid Dancer thanks to his passive but Marianne fits the role so well. Wanted to try Falcon Knight with a magical sword, but I was very satisfied with her as a dancer, as opposed to Flayn (honestly Holy Knight makes more sense for her) and Dorothea (Meteor... Gremory...) in my other playthroughs.

I loved this route a lot.

    The Positives

    • Amazing character interactions, the writer deserves a raise honestly, they killed it and put a LOT of time developing these characters that are unforgettable. I think it surpassed Persona in terms of character interactions, especially since one character can have multiple support conversations with many characters and that adds a lot to each of their personality.
    • The depth of building your army was really good, between thinking about using Gambits, thinking about which Personal Abiltiies worked well with other PA and which classes to choose for your characters, it made for a fantastic experience.
    • Maddening is a fun difficulty, quite hard but also very rewarding since it forces you to use every single feature of the game. Gardening for stat boost, fishing for money and stat boost, Tournament for money and items, Choir for Authority and Faith. Also using the utility Gambits like Stride, Impregnable Wall (a must), Retribution, or using Ashes and Dust and other big AOE ones with Canto to Crowd Control an army and letting your team focus on another side.
    • The lore is fantastic! While not having as much depth as the Tellius games, it was very interesting and I want to see more from it in a sequel if they decide to make one.
    • The music as usual is a great.
    • Magical weapons were a great addition to the game and it opened a lot of new possibilities.
    • The characters are one of the best in the JRPG genre overall, they're such a fantastic and lovable set of students. It hurts when you have to kill them in different routes.

    The Negatives

    • When you see how deep the lore in the Tellius games is, you feel scammed with the lore here, it seems incomplete in a sense because you don't know anything about other places outside of Foldlan. I hope it was done on purpose to expand on it in the future.
    • CF is incomplete.
    • Lack of races. Given how Fates had Manaketes and Dragons, while Tellius had Cats, Lions, Tigers, Hawks, Ravens and Dragons, it surprising they didn't add monsters in the world.
    • Having Byleth reversing time is too unfair, I would've preferred if he/she was a tactical genius or have the imaginary GF be the strategist or something.
    • The monastery exploration is sooooooo dull!!!! It gets boring way too fast and I easily prefer a more menu based exploration than this. The dialogue with the NPCs added a lot to the plot though so it was always interesting to learn more about what everyone was feeling and learning more about the upcoming enemy.
    • While its a step forward in the right direction (support conversations) it feels like a big step backwards in terms of lore writing, race diversity, too much filler, lack of interesting endgame classes...
    • Another big step backwards, especially compared to Fates as a whole, is the map design, it was too simple, even the design of Ballistas was inexistent, I didn't even realize there was one until they hit me from nearly one country apart and even then I had to use the map to locate the spot.
    • Missed opportunity with Claude. He could've been an awesome character but it seems someone told the writers to not make him look better than Edelgard or Dimitri, because they were hinting at some great moments with him using some tactics or schemes that were not fair, even in other routes you feel the same, like yeah having Nader come as a surprise was fun, but I expected a lot more.
    • Classic magic attacks were uninteresting. Compare the Tellius games, Fire does well against Cats and Tigers, Wind deals with Hawks and Ravens while Thunder fucks Dragons, while the magicians in those two games were trash, you needed magic to have another option to deal with those Laguz, especially the Dragons.
    • Tanks are worthless considering Poison Strikes being in every single bow user in the game... I love tanks but they got nerfed even more compared to how bad they are in other games.
    • Hard difficulty was too easy.

    Tier List

    • S: Byleth, Edelgard, Claude, Petra, Lysithea
    • A: Dimitri, Felix, Bernie, Lindhart, Hilda, Leonie, Shamir
    • B: Ingrid, Mercedes, Caspar, Lorenz, Catherine, Sylvain
    • C: Dedue, Dorothea, Ignatz, Marianne, Manuela, Hanneman
    • D: Ashe, Annie, Hubert, Ferdinand, Alois, Gilbert
    • E: Raphael.

    Conclusion

As a whole it was a fantastic experience, you could see the developers took a gamble and had a limited time (gods how I hate this fucking problem in this era, same shit happened to FFXV), so they focused a lot more on the characters and didn't have enough time to finish other parts of the game that needed more polish.

I spent nearly 170 hours and I haven't even done the DLC or SS, and honestly not too interested since the characters design look dull, the new classes look lame and I read SS is pretty much VW without Claude, so no. This is the most time I have EVER spent on a JRPG by far and I wouldn't have done it if the game wasn't fun, I had a blast!

Overall I give this game a solid 7.5/10 and don't let the score fool you, its a very special game made with a lot of care but lacked the time to polish some areas.

    Score: 7.5/10
