What 1 support conversation changed your view on a character completely?

I feel that sometime for better or for worse there are support conversation that can completely change your view on a character. A good example of this is Camilla and Niles or Lyn and Wallace. However there also bad examples of this as well being Byleth and Bernadetta S conversation or Robin and Aversa.

Let's talk about Fates!

Hello, everyone. I'm LagSpike, your resident fates buff. In general, I find that there isn't that much discussion on Fates in this subreddit, and I honestly think that's a shame.

So, today, I have a few questions for us to talk over with fates! Feel free to argue in the comments (in fact, I recommend that you do so.) I'll be putting my answers in this post to start some discussion.

Questions:

Rank the Fates routes from your most favorite to least favorite
- For me, my most favorite fates route is Conquest, for obvious reasons, followed by Rev, which I honestly think is underappreciated, and then Birthright can actually fuck right off.
What are your most and least favorite mechanics introduced or changed in fates?
- Most favorite: I mean, it's gotta be pair up and dual strike. Awakening's pair-up system was grossly overpowered and probably not tested as much as it should've been, and though I'm down for a curb stomp on the enemies with paired-up units, the way Fates does pair up really makes it hard for me to go back.
- Least favorite: Dragon Veins. Yeah, I know, weird, right? My main point with Dragon Veins is that they don't positively impact the gameplay of fates basically ever, and it screws you over for using non-royals sometimes, which sucks because one of Fates's biggest strengths is customizability in your army, and when you're constraining the number of deployment slots you have because you need to deploy at least a few dragon vein users, it just doesn't make it more fun.
Who are your most favorite and least favorite units in each route?
- Birthright:
  - Most Favorite: Azama. When I finally decided to play Birthright after like 7 Conquest runs, I didn't really have high hopes for many of the units I'd seen, especially after seeing how their base levels got all fucked up. Azama was no exception, but I kept deploying him because you can never go wrong with healers. Turns out, I'm a fucking moron, and Great Master Azama is Birthright's equivalent of early promote Laslow in CQ, and the man is a fucking legend. If you haven't used Azama, do yourself a favor and try him out.
  - Least Favorite: Mozu. In CQ, Mozu has some modicum of uniqueness going for her, being the only unit other than Corrin that can give someone access to Archer, but in BR, she's shit out of luck. Mozu can still technically be an OK mom because of aptitude, but she has absolutely 0 prospects that someone like Setsuna doesn't have, and Setsuna actually has a good pair up and doesn't need a heart seal to give that pair up.
- Conquest:
  - Most Favorite: Peri. Yeah, yeah, omg what a bad character!!!1!! Suck it up, it's Conquest. If you leave all the bias you have against this DeviantArt OC lookin ass cotton candy head ass girl, she's a very fun combat unit. First of all, she just has really good strength and speed, at 13 base each. She has reasonable defenses, at 10 def/res. And her personal, dear god, her personal. Peri's weapon ranks are good enough that she can dual strike enemies to kill them on Ch 12, use the armorslayer on knights in Ch 13, and then just promote at level 15 or so, grab Keaton as a backpack, and schmoove on the rest of the game. Peri is probably one of the best general-purpose combat units that all of Conquest gives you, and it's honestly a crime that she's so underrated by the community.
  - Least Favorite: Nyx. Fuck this bitch. I hate her so goddamn much, you couldn't possibly understand. She's in a class with the same base class speed as an armor knight, with fuck all for HP, absolute dogshit hit rates (Except at 1 range when she's probably going to take counterattacks), and she's trying to be a glass cannon. This is like Lyn; you can't be a glass cannon if you don't hit hard. Ophelia is a more realistic glass cannon; Though she still struggles with speed earlier on, she'll actually hit hard and have reasonable hit rates. Literally, the only thing Nyx has going for her is her base level meaning that she can early promote and get 2hkoed instead of 1hkoed on chapter 10 and she's actually a solid backpack for an actually good combat unit like Leo.
- Revelation:
  - Most Favorite: Saizo. Two words. Sol Ninja. Saizo already has the boon of extremely high skill and unusually solid defense, so when you marry him to Charlotte, he can go into Hero, grab HP+5 and Sol, go back into Master Ninja, and then you can just fuckin send him at enemies and they just die. Saizo does have some solid competition in the early game with Kaze because Kaze can double and do some solid damage, but Saizo is honestly a great shout if you want a fun skill build in Rev.
  - Least Favorite: Nyx. Yep, she's on here, twice, that's just how shit she is. Not only does she spawn with basically the same stats, not only does she not have her Fimbulvetr, which you could at least sell for 750g in CQ, but she also joins in between two absolute monster units in Silas and fucking Level 10 promoted Shura. Nyx has straight up no usage outside of backpacking in this route, and honestly, I don't even bother talking to her to recruit her most of the time because I'd rather have someone like Sakura marry Leo.
What is your favorite thing, full stop, about Fates?
- OST, next question.
What is one thing you wish you could change about Fates?
- It's not the story, honestly. The thing is, having a good story would make Fates probably like top 3 FE games ever, but the gameplay is so close to being perfect that I can't stop myself from saying that the weapon and item balance in Fates is so bad. Fates is ruled by bronze weapons because a lot of later weapons cost a lot more AND have negative side effects. I'd definitely balance out all the weapons and fix the staves so that you don't have to spend ludicrous amounts of money annoyingly frequently to buy staves that run out in 20, or worse, 15, uses. Also, make concoctions and Elixirs 3 uses. It's not hurting anybody.
Final question! Where do the Fates games rank in your favorite Fire Emblem games?
- For me, Conquest is only below Radiant Dawn, which is my favorite Fire Emblem game of all time. Rev is #4, behind Thracia, New Mystery, Conquest, and Radiant Dawn. If you want to fight me over that, honestly, I welcome it, so please leave a comment. The only game I actually hate more than Birthright is Gaiden, and that should tell you a lot.
