Why Genealogy and Thracia shouldn’t be combined explained in the stupidest way possible

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 01:01 PM PST

So imagine Genealogy of the Holy War as a sandwich and Thracia 776 as a taco. Genealogy is a damn good sandwich. The flavors of each individual ingredient really shine when put together, and it's an interesting twist on a classic, well known dish. Then right as you're chewing the last bite of the first half of the sandwich, the chef grabs the other half off your plate, and chucks it into the deep frier. But when he finally gives it back to you, it tastes great, maybe even better than before! The flavor might not be quite as complex, and some of the ingredients taste pretty similar to before, but it's not really any less enjoyable.

But this restaurant you're eating at also serves tacos. Maybe you haven't tried them, but you've heard nothing but good things and really want to give them a go. Now, a normal person would probably come back some other time to try those tacos, but not you. You want them now, even though you're still eating the second half of your sandwich. So for some god forsaken reason, you think it would be a good idea to shove that fucking taco midway into your sandwich! It might be a lot of food, but you were pretty hungry so it all works out. They're served by the same restaurant anyway, and they even use the same same lettuce, so honestly, how bad could it be?

Well to nobody's surprise but your own, the answer is pretty fucking bad. The sandwich that was so good before is now disgustingly bloated in the middle, with a bunch of flavors that don't belong disrupting what was previously a pretty good sandwich. And having a tortilla between two slices of bread makes a lot of the sandwich taste incredibly bland.

But even after finishing eating the taco you crammed haphazardly into a few bites of a completely separate entree, you still aren't done, are you? At least you can finally get back to —oh wait no you fucked that up too. While you were busy eating your taco, the sandwich got soggy and the fried shell softened. And even if you do finish it now, you've already ruined the sandwich-eating experience. Yet Lord Kaga still has one punishment left for you in your hubris. While you were busy stuffing your face with your Lovecraftian horror of an entree, a lot of those taco ingredients were shifting around. And of course, taco shells ARE open on one side. I think you can see where I'm going with this. A lot of that taco filling started escaping the tortilla... and seeping into the rest of the sandwich. Now a bunch of flavors that shouldn't be there permeate your soggy husk of a sandwich, and just sort of stew there, adding nothing of value and distracting you from the actually important ingredients. But hey, at least you didn't have to wait for your fucking taco,

Hicks: I love this man with only 4 lines.

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 03:01 PM PST

Hicks is a pretty minor character from Thracia 776 that most people who even played the game tend to forget about so here I am to talk about why I like him.

To give context, Hicks is a former axe knight of Manster (or Meath if you really want to go by the most recent official translation). Hicks has a son named Murphy who was abducted and locked up in Manster prisons as part of the child hunt conducted by the Empire of Grannvale. If Leif manages to rescue his son then Hicks pledges his support and joins Leif's rebellion. The only pieces of characterization he gets are a recruitment/failed recruitment line, escape quote, death quote and an epilogue.

Hicks is a father who deeply cares about his son. He is not an extraordinary person with grand power or ambitious, but the reason he decides to join the fight against what is effectively the world is to create a better and safer world for his son. That is what I like about Hicks because he exemplifies one of the themes FE5 wants to get across. A person who takes a stand against the tyranny and evil of the world is a hero. Special blood or legendary weapon does not make a hero nor makes them any nobler than the average Joe who is willing to go out there and help people.

It is people like Hicks that helps Leif understand this lesson (not directly, I'll explain). Hicks and Murphy are the people Leif needs to aid in order to mature and find his heroism. They are victims of the child hunts, a practice which children across the land are round-up to be either sacrificed to the dark god or put into death matches where the winner is indoctrinated to become a follower of the dark god, Loptous. Leif grows up unaware of the suffering of the people living in just Thracia alone. If Leif fails to manage to save Murphy and the other jailed children then when he visits the houses of the villages, he encounters people who are left in their sorrow. In Hicks' case, he is consumed by anger and sadness that he yells at Leif to leave his house and take his "rebellion" with him. However, if he manages to succeed then he meets people with revived spirits who offer their help by giving him rewards. It shows up in the gameplay as Hicks has a support with Leif even though they're complete strangers, but because he is so moved by Leif's actions. I also think it is sweet that Hicks is so happy at the return of his son and the game shows it by giving him a support with Leif.

The part is based on my personal feelings and playthrough so it is a completely subjective objective point. Chapter 4x is when you rescue Murphy, but unlike the previous times you saved prisoners, there is no immediate benefit in this chapter. What I did get was the feeling of doing something nice and good by saving from such a bleak situation. Recruiting Hicks because of the kind act I did two chapters prior made recruiting this character more rewarding than usual. It is the moments that you create for yourself that can enhance a playthrough.

So now I've just spent more words explaining why I like one of the least popular characters of the least popular game than he ever did. In conclusion, this is why I gave Hicks all the Crusader scrolls so that he can cap his stats and brought him to endgame.

TL;DR; He good dad who help grow a young boy who doesn't even have major Holy Blood.

Regarding Cornelia in VW and SS

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 09:59 AM PST

I think Cornelia is killed in the raid against Shambhala. There is an Agarthan which appears to be the Gremory class, or at least a strong magic user. Their name is Bias and she controls the Titanus. The only other female mage shown to do so is Cornelia. So, perhaps she is the true Agarthan form of Cornelia who retreated back to Shambhala.
