Posted: 19 Jun 2020 06:47 PM PDT The timeline of the Adrestian coup involves the actual coup itself happening in 1171, and the eleven princes and princesses disappeared from the public eye. We know they were still absent as of 1174, and considering the timing of the tragedy of Duscur, they could very well have still been in some way absent by 1176, considering the fact Patricia goes to great lengths to see her daughter again then. Edelgard was the only one to reappear in one piece, with the others turning up dead or mentally shattered, if they 'turned up' at all in those states. The Church gives no indication they have so much as noticed the fact Edelgard wasn't born an only child, and Jeralt describes eastern Adrestia as being stable but for a noble rebellion "that didn't amount to much". What excuses could have been made to Rhea here that don't reflect badly on her? This part of Adrestian history going without mention indicates that there had to have at least been a coverup effort, what was that? [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Jun 2020 09:40 AM PDT Hoo boy Now, I don't intend to talk about the brewing drama between pro and anti-FE7 folks on twitter right now, and if your immediate thought is "what drama?" please just ignore what I've just said and keep reading on. FE7, is kind of an interesting game, even by FE standards. When it was first released in the West it received near-universal acclaim, beloved by newcomers and veterans alike. Fans who hopped on via FE6 were particularly impressed by its improvements made compared to its predecessor. Since then, however, there's been a growing backlash towards FE7. From the narrative to the gameplay, it seems like tons of people seem to have an issue with that game. Things came to a head when Mekkah made an exhaustive series plinkett style critique for it, and I want to be perfectly clear in saying that I liked that series overall. I didn't agree with everything, (and the gimmick was extremely grating ngl), but it was fairly even-handed review of a game from someone who has a considerable amount experience and passion for FE. That said, my issue with that video (and the reason I even made this thread) is how it contributed to a culture of people writing off FE7 wholesale, similar to how people uncritically praised FE7 as being this perfect game back in the day. I've seen the same template statements regurgitated endlessly by its detractors, and while I of course think everyone is entitled to their opinion, it's pretty obvious when people are being disingenuous or completely reliant on an external source (ie: Mekkah's video) to make their arguments for them. I know it sounds like i'm ranting at this point, but it feel like its detractors are putting an undue weight on FE7's narrative failings. Like okay, you can make a list of things wrong with FE7's narrative and how things aren't really consistent, and how they matter, but I have major problems when people make it seem like they detract from the overall experience. Because for all its narrative failings, FE7 is easy to enjoy (imo) because of its cast of characters. Who feel less transient and irrelevant than in most FE titles. It's easy for me to ignore how badly written the Black Fang are when Eliwood, Lyn and Hector are compelling leads. When you moments like Matthew reacting to Leila's death or Lyn's speech with her grandfather or Hector finding about his brother's death. When all is said and done, GBA FE stories are just a vehicle to get to the gameplay bits, and I feel like FE7 does a much better job of making me care about the conflict than say FE6 did, with its unfeeling protagonist and interesting war being in service to a macguffin plot about collecting weapons to get a super weapon and not-kill a dragon. FE7 barely even has a war and you travel all over the place, but it's easy to get invested when the stakes are personal. It sounds like i'm giving FE6 a hard shake, but I really do like that game more than FE7. I think the map design is significantly better, with one of the best and most challenging Hard Modes in the series and a surprisingly satisfying character balance. But I guess I just take issue with people, a game that's still extremely fun despite how relatively easy it is, and despite having dumb scenes like Ninian being revived. So yeah... those are my unorganized thoughts lmao. Feel free to tear me apart. [link] [comments]
