Happy 20th anniversary to Tear Ring Saga: Yutona Heroes Saga!

    Posted: 24 May 2021 06:44 PM PDT

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the game Tear Ring Saga: Yutona Heroes Saga for the PlayStation; it was released on May 24th, 2001. The game was published by Enterbrain and developed by Tirnanog, a firm which was founded by Fire Emblem series creator Shouzou Kaga following his departure from Intelligent Systems in 1999. Infamously, the development of Tear Ring Saga triggered a lawsuit from Nintendo and Intelligent Systems due to the many similarities the game bore to the original FE games, down to the original title of the game (Emblem Saga). While Nintendo did partially win the lawsuit, they were unable to halt sales of Tear Ring Saga. The game itself stars the adventures of Runan through the continent of Lieberia after Runan's country fell. It plays extremely similarly to previous Fire Emblem games and reuses some mechanics from them such as Gaiden's world map system although with some new changes to them.

r/fireemblem made and FE9 Redux Tier List

    Posted: 24 May 2021 01:08 PM PDT

Last round resulted in Zihark E, Sothe D, Tormod C, Tanith A and Ena & Nasir in G tier.

And with that, the list is complete! I linked every unit's round. If you want to see more in-depth stuff on each unit, just head to their round to look at all the discussion that was had.

Here's a png of the tier list

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Fantastic Performance: S

Insanely useful from the get go, always a dominant force from the moment they arrive and require little investment if any. Contributes in a significant enough manner that they always sticks out and have a substantial role. The game changes substantialy when these units are sidelined.

    Includes:

    • Titania - An incredebly dominant unit in the earlygame, nearly perfect availability, excellent bases, weapon ranks and growths, is in one of the best classes in the game and her usefulness can be extend for the entire game with the knight ward
    • Marcia - First flyer you get. Due to flying being incredebly powerful, Marcia gets priority over forges, statbooster and BEXP in order to quickly snowball and invalidate large parts of the game
    • Jill - Second flyer to join you. Shaky speed, but with similar investment to Marcia, Jill will quickly become one of your strongest units.
    • Reyson - Dancer that can also transform into a a flying dancer with 8 move that can dance for 4 units on the same turn

    Great Performance: A

Extremely useful and always a good addition to a team. Doesn't require too much investment and if they do then it's enough to make them stand out compared to most units. Biggest things holding them back are that they either don't stand out as much as the S tiers or even with investment they aren't as dominant in their role as the S tiers.

    Includes:

    • Oscar - Your first mounted unit along with Titania. While neither his bases or growths are amazing, due to his excellent availability and access to an amazing class, Oscar will be a both a significant combat and support unit for the entire game
    • Kieran - Very similar to Oscar if he exchanged a few chapters of availability for better bases and a worse affinity for axes at base. Similarly to Oscar, he's excellent
    • Tanith - Strong flyer, great weapon ranks, amazing affinity, good skill. The only real thing holding Tanith back is missing a few notable chapters for flyers, aside from that she's close to perfect

    Good Performance: B

Is pretty useful and has some sections of the game where they stand out and help. Overall solid, isn't the most significant unit, but definitely contributes in a helpful way. Aren't the highest priority when it comes to deployment, but will definitely be one of your deployment options to fill out your team. Biggest things holding them back are good but not amazing stats, not the best class access, not the best weapon access and maybe not the best availability. Good, but has some significant flaws that hold them back from being great.

    Includes:

    • Boyd - Has a shaky start due to needing a few luckly level ups to start doubling and Tempest making him often miss, but aside from that Boyd will be one of your best infantry combat units thanks to his great availability, growths, access to the best weapon type in the game and great affinity, which all make up for his mediocre start
    • Soren - Awful start, but with some investment will become a strong combat and utility unit due to getting access to staves and having a support with Ike.
    • Rhys - Your first staffbot. Will drop off as the game goes along and healing becomes less valuable and he isn't a notable combat unit ever, but he due to his earlygame contributions along with his lategame uses with the rescue or physic staves he's a valuable unit
    • Ilyana - Very similar to Sorne, just trades a few chapters of availability for better bases and a better strength growth, but doesn't have as good of a skill and equally good support partners
    • Mist - Awful start, but with some BEXP and an early promotion, Mist will become your only moounted staffbot, which has a lot of uses. Giving her a few arms scrolls so she can use magic swords is also fun
    • Mordecai - Strong 1 range combat when promoted and while he's unpromoted he can smite units to give the additional movement
    • Astrid - Needs help, but thanks to paragon and the knight ward she will quickly snowball and become a notable paladin
    • Makalov - Very similar to Astrid, just with better bases and base level, but no paragon

    AOK Performance: C

Perfectly average, they do work and can become pretty good with investment but do fine without investment. At the end of the day they are just serviceable, neither a detriment nor a priority when it comes to being used and are essentially filler.

    Includes:

    • Ike - Perfect availaibility, servicable bases, good growths and a good affinity. He has a decent earlygame due to using swords and having access to the Regal sword, but during the midgame and lategame his footlock and swordlock really hurt him. Luckley, he makes a comeback in the lategame due to the Ragnell + wrath + resolve
    • Lethe - A filler midgame combat unit. Decent for a while, befor she drops off
    • Volke - Your first thief. Has some useful thief utility and decent survivability. His main problem are daggers being an awful weapon type. Fines you 50 gold for his duties, but that's not too relevant
    • Stefan - Excellent bases and weapon, but is stuck in a bad class
    • Tormod - Mediocre start, but with BEXP he can become another useful sage, along with having a unique nieche thanks to Celerity
    • Muarim - Similar to Mordecai, but joins a few chapters later with better bases, but no Smite.
    • Calill - A strong sage, that will usually be on par with a trained Soren, Ilyana and Tormod, but no access to staves and joins late
    • Haar - Filler flyer for the last part of the game.
    • Geoffrey - Filler paladin for the last parts of the game
    • Elincia - Filler flying staffbot for the last few maps of the game

    Iffy Performance: D

Can perform a niche role and do something, but generally aren't that useful. Don't really do much and if they do something unique then it's usually done much better by a bunch of other units. Severely outclassed by most other units and while they can do something, it's usually pretty bleh in execution.

    Includes:

    • Gatrie - Has some earlygame utilty, but is superflous aside from that
    • Janaff - Can transform instantly and has some decent combat + flying utility, but isn't particlualry useful for how late he joins
    • Tauroneo - Filler general for the later parts of the game
    • Largo - Filler berserker for the last parts of the game. Really poor defenses
    • Sothe - A worse thief than Volke in every way aside from not costing 50 gold and comes with a worthless skill. But he can still perform the same thieving duties that Volke can

    Lame Performance: E

Straight up bad, no way around it. There are very few places where they are actually useful, and they are actively difficult units to use effectively. Can probably do something at base such as heal other units, rescue canto others or chip stuff with effective weapons but it's such a bare minimum contribution that calling them good would be a stretch. They can do something, that's the most you can say for them. Other then that they're bad.

    Includes:

    • Shinon - Has a few uses in the earlygame, but then leaves fri a logn period of time and joins back when his bases have become quite bad and his excellent growths can't save him
    • Nephenee - With some BEXP investment she can become a decent infantry combat unit due to Wrath, but it's not really worth by the time she joins as there are much better BEXP targets
    • Zihark - Joins with somewhat servicable bases, decent sword rank and a great affinity, but being a infanty swordlocked unit just isn't very relevant by the time he joins
    • Devdan - A very unimpressive unit all around and can't get anywhere without BEXP and the knight ward. He has a pretty great youtube channel
    • Ulki - Needs a few turns to transform and even if you give him a demi band or a laguz gem, he will still be a very mediocre unit mostly used for shoving
    • Ranulf - Decent combat with a demi band, but he just doesn'thave many uses fr how late he joins.
    • Bastian - Very bad bases and is heavely outclassed by all your other sages that joined earlyer

    Meme Performance: F

These units are just really bad, complete bottom of the barrel. So bad that even with an insane amount of investment they either end up still bad or at best incredibly mediocre and this is accounting for immense babying and all stat boosters going to them. E ranks can at least do something that counts as contribution. These units can't even have that as a claim to fame, they're so bad that they just do little if anything in a non casual/non meme context.

    Includes:

    • Mia - Mediocre bases, unimpressive growth, locked to a bad weapon type, locked to a bad class, poor durabilit, nonexistant nieches. Yeah, there isnt' much good to say about Mia
    • Rolf - Awful bases and no paragon or excellent growths to make up for it. Along with that he's stuck in a bad class withan awful weapon type and is usually more of a liability than anything else
    • Brom - An armor knight that manages to be even worse than Gatrie and Tauroneo. No real uses aside from shoving a few units and warming the bench
    • Lucia - A joke in pretty much every way. Bad bases, joins very late, not very amazing growths, an awful skill and stuck in horrible class. She at least has an earth affinity I guess.

    Gotoh tier: G

The last laguz that join you in the last parts of the game. They exist, I guess

    Includes: 1.Nasir 2.Ena 3.Giffca 4.Tibarn 5.Naesala (tiered from best to worst)

    • Nasir & Ena - Additional units to help you deal with Ashanrd.
    • Giffca - The strongest of the last three royals, but has the worst mobility. Still, once he gets to Ashanrd he will deal very significant damage
    • Tibarn - Worse combat than Giffca, but better mobility
    • Naesala - The worst combat out of everyone against Ashnard and as such doesn't have much use as he is bad at his main job.

Who is the biggest boomer in Fire Emblem?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 01:58 PM PDT

Fire emblem is mostly full of teens and young adults going about, warring, killing, demanding tribute from poor villages, and kill patron deities that were minding their own business. This can likely be attributed to the age of the cast. I mean, what young 14 year old doesn't want to have a tussle against god himself? But what about our older folk? The ones that are real BOOMERS. The type that either say "how do you do fellow kids", or the ones that want you off their lawn? I mean, there are a handful of older people in the series, but i think most of them are relatively pleasant. But I still need to know. Who is the biggest Boomer?

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon Merciless Mode LTC Chapter 6

    Link

Probably the most complex chapter in the game that isn't total garbage like the early game maps. There is a lot going on this map and most of the weird decisions we made earlier were to compensate for this chapter.

One thing Dondon noted as an issue in his clear was the fact that enemy movement was random and he had to use a save point to manipulate the movement. This strategy removes all of that. By forging a fire tome for Merric with stats just good enough to drop enemies to just above half hp we can ensure the random movement in the enemy room doesn't matter since we avoid triggering the priests AI. Up top the deployment of Paladin Wendell ensures we can manipulate the enemies into a different position than normal that always occurs and take them out. The forged Javelin we made last chapter does wonders for allowing us properly take out the enemies.

However since we skipped out on the forged riders bane and getting Abel to C lances we have a different issue of trying to obtain the master key (we don't need it technically but the money is good). This is why we trained Cain's lance rank as in combination with Abel and their mutual support they can grab all the treasure from the escaping thieves and the master key. Roshea theoretically could be deployed as a replacement of a trained Cain but it was end up relying on enemy stat rolls more and we'd lose 5 hit on almost every attack made by them so training Cain really pays off here.

Wolf and Sedgar are deployed as generals this map. Wolf takes the top since he can't get crit. An alternative strategy that lowers overall reliability but could save in between reliability is to have wolf deployed as a horseman filling in for Sedgar's role. He has just enough move as a horseman to reach the save that I missed and enough stats to not get ORKO'd by the enemies unlike Sedgar.

The boss of this map is really scary and OHKO's Caeda. We get around this by using the Master Key to convoy work the forged Javelin and get it back in Hardin's hands to weaken the boss enough for Caeda to not need to face a counter.

We could have used the warp we used in chapter 4 to 2 turn this map by warping Marth into the boss room with a forged rapier. This would save 2 turns but detroy reliability (<1% CoS) so I didn't go for it. We'd also lose out on all the goodies we got in this chapter.

    Overall CoS: 25.6% (59.4% and 43.1% respectively)

    New Units:

Rickard - Julian 2. There there is no difference between him and Julian that matters for this run. Most people end up deploying Julian so I'll be deploying Rickard a lot for flavor instead.

    fe4 remake

    Posted: 24 May 2021 12:51 PM PDT

How faithful do you think it would be? The remakes have been pretty faithful so far with the one exception in New Mystery that I'll get to. In fact I think they've been some of the best in the series. On top of that fe4 is one of the most popular fe games in Japan, so I don't know why they'd risk upsetting people. There are a few things that have me worried though. 1. Kris. I think they probably learned that people didn't want that leading to Echoes, but an avatar that takes the focus away from the main characters is still a possibility I would say. 2. Probably the darkest game in the series. It's possible that to keep in line with the mostly T ratings so far they'd censor some things important to the plot. 3 Houses had some dark stuff though so I'm not sure. 3. Big maps. They make the game unique but it's possible they'd be removed to fall in line with the other games. I hope none of these things happen but if the game gets remade I'll have to cross my fingers 🤞. Also it would be cool if this doesn't get swept over for the art gallery but I can't control this sub lmao.
