Let's create original FE classes together!

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 07:27 AM PDT

Person A will post the class's name.

Person B, the weapons it use and the description of it's outfit.

Person C, the stats it specializes in and what classes it promotes from or into.

Person D, finishes it with the class's skills.

Keep it original. No using names from previous FE titles.

Keep it semi-serious. Don't reference memes or jokes.

I think we need more of non royal protagonist.

I think there more ways we could have a story in a future game where the main hero is nothing more than an ordinary being. Maybe a game with more commoners and less nobles.

The Current State of the Fire Emblem Fates Metagame: A Short Essay on the Reliability and Practicality of Obtaining MyCastle Resources in Efficient Play

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 01:43 PM PDT

Regarding MyCastle resources in Fire Emblem Fates in relation to efficient play: Should MyCastle resources be factored in when playing Fates efficiently or when discussing Fates efficiency?

Discussions from roughly 1 year ago about the state of MyCastle resources in efficient play took place in the #3ds-era room on the Fire Emblem Reddit Discord. The user jellyunicorn in particular had made rather compelling arguments against why unlimited resources should not be assumed in efficient play. What defines "efficient play"? While this term is clearly subjective, it can be argued that efficient play can be defined by four conditionals:

    1. Is it possible?
    2. How practical is it?
    3. How reliable is it?
    4. How meaningful is it?

Note that points #2-4 are relative to alternative options. To apply this criteria to the gathering of MyCastle resources, there are generally two ways of attaining resources in bulk: hacking them in through something such as the FEFTwiddler application, or manually grinding resources via Online MyCastle functions. The general gathering of MyCastle resources can be considered as meaningful, as it allows the player to both forge weapons and create Meals for additional stat boosts. These stat increases may be relevant to allow certain units to reach specific benchmarks (e.g. Master Ninja Shura would require a +2 Bronze Dagger to meet one-round benchmarks in ch17, on top of other boosts). At any rate, to utilize forges and meals will usually be more meaningful than to do otherwise.

Regarding attaining resources via means of hacking: this option simply is not available to all players. Because of this, it fails to meet the first point of the criteria: possibility. If it were made easily acceptable to all players, then perhaps this method would have merit, as it is both a practical and a reliable way of attaining these resources. But because all players do not have access to this, because this option is not possible for all players, it should not be considered for efficient gameplay.

Regarding attaining resources via means of grinding through Online MyCastle functions: currently, this option is possible for those playing on console. Note that the word "currently" was used; the Nintendo 3DS servers will eventually shut down, and when this happens, this will no longer be a viable option. For the sake of the argument, say that this were not the case; can this be considered as a viable method to gather resources? Generally, while this method can be considered as reliable, it is far from practical. Anyone who has ever gone through the process of attaining resources via grinding through Online MyCastle functions will say that it is a tedious process. Because the time and effort spent on this endeavor ultimately outweighs the time and effort saved from gathering the resources, this method is largely impractical.

Regarding alternative methods: it is true that the player's own MyCastle will have two structures that slowly produce resources (four structures if playing Revelation). The acquisition of these specific resources can be considered as unreliable, as the player cannot determine which resources they receive. With that said, there is an exchange rate for mineral resources: 5 of any mineral resource can be exchanged for 1 of any other mineral of the same region. While the amount of ore obtained is variable, the minimum amount will always be constant; the player will always receive at least a certain amount of ore. Using this minimum amount in collaboration with the exchange system can lead to the formulation of relatively reliable and practical strategies. This is essentially the alternative that the user jellyunicorn proposed. Unfortunately, even this alternative is not without its flaws; because the resource-producing structures interact with the internal clock, they are set to produce resources not only based on chapter completion, but based on real-time as well. This obviously means that this alternative does have reliability issues There are other ways to collect resources, but none of them are reliable or practical. These methods include random MyCastle drops and the use of Keaton's personal, Collector.

Again, the question being asked is: Should MyCastle resources be factored in when playing Fates efficiently or when discussing Fates efficiency? Should the answer be no, there is no doubt that Fates' metagame would be considerably altered, as the lack of forges and meals would make certain strategies more difficult to perform while making other strategies impossible. With that said, it would be interesting to see what new strategies might arise in order to address any new issues, what new applications can be used to creatively bypass additional obstacles in the player's path.

If Fire Emblem Three Houses had a Class System akin to Awakening. Part 1 (Unique Classes)

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 06:04 PM PDT

This post contains spoilers for the game—Proceed with caution.

So one day, I got bored and decided to write up what I think Three Houses' class system would look like if it were similar to that of Awakening's class system.

    Unique Classes:

Obviously, Byleth, Edelgard, Claude and Dimitri would have their own classes, so I'll start with them.

Byleth's initial class would be what I call the "Professor" class, which would be their equivalent to Robin's Tactician Class. Byleth would be able to use Swords and Gauntlets (More on those when I get to the generic classes). When they promote after merging with Sothis, they will gain access to the Enlightened One class, as per usual, while also gaining access to Staves (I'm using the Awakening system of magic, so if a class uses reason, it will use tomes, while if they use faith, they use staves.).

Edelgard would start with the "Armoured Lord" class, which uses Swords and Axes. And would acquire the "Emperor" class following the time skip, which grants her access to use tomes as a nod to her budding talent.

Dimitri would start as the bog-standard "Lord", though he would have access to both Swords and Lances off the bat. When he promotes to the "Great Lord" after the time skip, he gains access to Gauntlets, which considering his state, make sense, at least to me.

Claude would start as what I call the "Bow Lord" Class. The name speaks for itself; he would have access to Swords and Bows, and when promoted to the "Barbarossa" class after the time skip, he would gain the ability to fly, since a flying archer early on sounds broken to me.

Then that brings us to the other unique classes, Cyril's "Trainee" class, the Dancer class, and Jeritza's Death Knight class.

Cyril's "Trainee" class would work like Donnel's Villager Class, but with Axes instead of Lances. And like Donnel, Cyril would need to reclass (Which I'm happy to explain in Part 2 if you want one) rather than promote.

The player would gain the Dancer Class the same way as the actual game, with the class being able to use Swords, Tomes and Staves.

As for the Death Knight, it would basically be the same. However, it would only be able to use Swords, Lances and Tomes.

I'll leave it here for now. This was a dumb idea I did while I was bored and wanted to see what others thought.

Has the Fire Emblem series ever made reference to the Divine Comedy?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 04:31 PM PDT

    For context: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divine_Comedy

I was listening to one of my favorite musical tracks from Final Fantasy 4, Battle With The Four Fiends, and it made me wonder if Dante's Inferno, also known as the Divine Comedy, has ever been referenced in the Fire Emblem series.

Has it? If not, perhaps they should make reference to it at some point? I'd certainly love to see Scarmiglione, Cagnazzo, Barbariccia, and Rubicante in some shape or form, along with any other demons from the narrative poem.

How long to wait in-between routes?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 03:25 AM PDT

So I beat FE:TH a while ago. My first route was Golden Deer. I absolutely loved everything about it but at the end the monastery gameplay felt really repetitive. Maybe that was just because I was dying to see what happened next in the story though. Anyway, then I had a 100 hour long XC2 gameplay including the prequel Torna. Then I tried DQXI didn't like it and here we are. I'm debating starting another route but I worry it will be too repetitive because I finished it not that long ago. How long did you wait in-between your 1st and 2nd route? No spoilers please!
